Q: What type of gas to use on my 2004 VW Beetle with Turbo Engine?
Hi, I was wondering what kind of gas I need to use for my 2004 Beetle with a turbo engine? I am currently using 91 octane but now its' reached 4 dollars! Could I put in the middle grade to save some money or will that ruin my engine? Thanks.
A: Premium. Yeah, you can risk putting middle grade gas in your car, but if you run into engine problems later you'll be asking yourself, "Was saving a few bucks at every fillup really worth it?"
I feel you pain ... my car requires premium unleaded too. It's times like this that I really miss my Prius!!!
Q: What is the towing capacity of a 2004 VW Beetle?
I have checked my owner's manual and it does not answer this question. Uhaul says it can tow up to 2000 lbs but I want to make sure this is accurate before I try.
A: If my memory is correct, only the Touareg in 2004 could tow.
With only 115 BHP on the 2.0 non turbo four, it wouldn't be able to tow much anyway. I cheched my materials from VW and could only find that the Touareg had any menion of being able to tow. I would take this to mean that the New Beetle cannot tow.
Hope this helps, a car nut.
PS: Even on the 2008 models, only the Touareg has a listing towing capacity... 1250 lbs without trailer brakes....
Q: 2004 vw beetle transmission?
i'm taking over payments on a 2004 vw new beetle gls. my mechanic swears up and down that the transmissions on vw and beetles in particular are bad. that car only has 34,500 on it and 2 years left to pay..
anyone run into problems?
A: A lot of very valuable research you can do at this forum. If you plow through even 10% of it you'll know more about your bug than the mechanic. This forum's saved me tons of money over the 2 years I've had my bug. These ppl can tell me better what's wrong with my bug just from my writeup than the dealer with his scanner and "VW certified mechanics."
Not to mention, a fun place to hang :)
Q: How to install headlight assy for a 2004 VW Beetle?
This is for the driver side. Do I have to remove the whole front bumper to get at it? If so, I see some screws in front of the engine....are there more underneath that would have to be removed as well? If this is too complicated, I may just have the repair shop do it....just trying to save a few bucks. Thanks.
A: i had to repair my headlights once a month with my beetle...first you have to unhinge the harness..just pull the lever sticking out down and the whole headlight will be free..next carefully unhook the wires...the lights are real sensitive so be gentle...then you unhook the old bulb and put in the new..rehook and add the wires back...slide it back in the slot it was theres two grooves you need to follow. onces thats in correctly, can take a few tries, slide the lever back up and your good to go
Q: I have a 2004 VW Beetle Turbo with a Monsoon 6 CD Changer. Everytime I insert any cd, it reads CD ERROR.?
Has anyone ever had this problem or have any suggestions? I don't want to take it back to the VW dealer, but I will if I have to.
It does this with every cd I own, new ones, old ones, etc...
A: Make sure your CDs are clean. You might also consider getting a CD player lens cleaner to clean the lens in the player. Also, I've found that CDs that are "burned" - ones you don't buy - have this problem more than standard CDs you purchase in music stores. Just an observation.
I would guess, though, that it's the lens causing the issue - it's not clean.
Try that first - it's cheap - cheaper than a new CD player!

Q: Radiator flushing for 2004 VW Beetle?
I have a 2004 turbo beetle convertible.
I took it in for an oil change, and the guy at the dealership told me the radiator needed to be flushed and that it had to be done every 2 years.
He said it would be 400 dollars.
So I just wanted to make sure this had to be done before I paid that much to get it done.
Thank you for the help.
A: $400 bucks!! that's beyond criminal!! Yes it should be done every two years But it should cost 59.95 NOT 400. That's just a ripoff!!! and you can do it yourself for 15.00. Don't go to the dealership for service... only go there for warranty work, get your car serviced at a jiffy lube or some lace like that. $400.00 for a radiator flush is ridicules
Q: The convertible top on my 2004 VW beetle convertible will not go up, any suggestions?
A: Some of them have a manual override, not sure if 2004 had it.
Try to ask this question at the site below. It's a free community-based site for New Beetle owners and it's helped me a lot over the years. There are also many people there who have experience with this car, and are willing to share it.

Q: My 2004 VW Beetle Convertible getting 17 mpg??
And that's on the highway.
it's an automatic.
I thought it would get better mgp's than that.
A: Could be either your fuel filter is dirty, or your MAF is malfunctionning. Dirty injectors? There's so much possibilities.
Try posting at http://newbeetle.org - they always have helpful tips for me. Try them later though, the server's down right now.
Q: A 2004 VW Beetle over heating?
water will not go out of the bottle unless i open the cap on the bottle
their is no heat and i replaced the thermostat but no water in the motor
It is a 2.0 is their a way to check if the pump is working?
It was the water pump boy was that fun to change Thanks for your help
A: I bet it's the water pump. The plastic impeller is notorious for failing before the recommended replacement interval. Check out the car forums below for more insight.
Just note, if it is the water pump, driving the car much further can cause major overheating and large repair bills. I also don't know what you mean exactly by that water won't come out. It only comes out if hot, and you open the cap ignoring the 'contents under pressure' warning. It's a pressurized system.
