Q: What is the difference between the 2003 - 2005 VW Beetle and 2005 onwards?
Noticed that 2005 onwards of the VW Beetle states "New Shape" but I can't really see the difference.

A: Having owned both New Beetle models, I can say that the basic car is the same. Personally, I liked the older model (1999-2005) The new (2006+) model does have slightly different fender shape and a more squared off look. The engine options have diminished down to the TDI or a 5 cylinder fuel injected 2.5 Liter. Rumours are that the beetle will recieve a Major redo in 2010.

Q: Has anyone had problems with their 2005 vw beetle?
I purchased my 05 beetle new. I have had numerous minor problems like 3 cd players replaced, passenger seat frame replaced, side mirror casing replaced! I have also had problems with the cruise control and have heard clicking noises when I turn to the right. I am worried that after the warranty is up then what? Any suggestions on what to do or should I get rid of it ? Thanks

Q: anyone with a 2005 VW Beetle that knows where the power steering reservoir is? I need to check the level?
I know, I know, "under the hood" but where exactlyl? I can not find my manual and I'm worried about the sound I hear when I turn. I want to see if the level is low. I did hit a kind of big pot hole 2 weeks ago today...could that have messed this up? It just got kinda loud today. Can I drive across town like this?

Q: The EPC light on my 2005 VW Beetle came on about a week ago.?
The manual says to contact a dealership if it starts blinking. but it isnt blinking. it just comes on and stays on. and it only comes on about everyother day. I dont feel any loss in power either. tomorrow i have to drive about an hour and a half to the airport. is it safe enough? I will go to a dealership in a couple days. but do you think it's safe to drive for 1 1/2 hours tomorrow? it wont like explode on me or anything will it? A: Check your brake lights while pressing on your brake pedal. It could be a faulty brake switch. I had the same problem which is very dangerous because your brake lights wont work. It is a recall by VW. Good luck.

A: I have a 2001 TDI Jetta and I love it. Same motor as the beetle (as far as I know) and I swear that you cannot tell it is a Diesel when you are driving it.

Q: 2005 beetle top is constantly confused...under warranty but VW is stumped too?
Our 2005 beetle had a top problem last week where it wouldn't go back up. The top wouldn't pull down and secure completely to complete the cycle. VW replaced some sensors and it will now go down but sometimes we have to roll windows up, down, up and sit for like 5 mins to get the top to seat down where the motor clicks to keep the alarm from chiming. Then it's fine. I've done all the obvious and it's driving us nuts. Summary: The top won't complete the "down" cycle and won't let it go back up until it does. Any ideas ?

A: Most tops have a pair of cables that go from front to rear to provide tension along the sides to keep the whole thing taunt. If these cables are too tight they can cause the motor to shut down due to torque or pressure limit,this may be the case here,particularly if it also has a limit switch of this nature. One other thing,has this vehicle ever been in an accident? Even a light "tap" can sometimes cause a top to be out of adjustment. It sounds to me as if someone needs to start from "square one" with the complete adjustment procedure just as if a complete new top were being installed and I bet the problem will be resolved. If you get no satisfaction with your current dealer find another. Also,limit switches do not require a computer,it is a simple make/break design,you could call it a sensor if you want ,and some do,but it is still just a simple switch in an override/closed-loop system,not unlike a wiper motor park circuit.

Q: Why was the original style VW Beetle not offered for sale in the USA when it was still for sale in Mexico?
Volkswagen just stopped producing the old-style Beetle in 2005 but it has not been available in the US for about 30 years. Why???

Q: Is a VW Beetle worth it?
I really really really want to purchase a VW Beetle (models: 2003-2005) Is it worth purchasing? I'm hearing some pretty bad things about them. Like stalling, electrical issues, interior falling apart etc....But I also have heard some good things about them too. Like how good they run, mileage, gas fun to drive etc......so what i'd like to hear about is what was the year(model) of the beetle you purchased what was the condition(new or used) price range(if you care to share) and whether or not you had any problems, and if you would ever recommend them to anyone else. Thanks! Oh and if you did have probs what were they?

A: Run, forrest, run!! The real question is.......can you afford to operate one? Operation cost is a real world answer. All vehicles cost money to drive. Simple things on other cars such as changing the headlight bulb have become a horrendous thing on this vehicle.......the entire headlight lens assembly must but literally cut out to replace the bulb. You cannot use any other type of antifreeze in the engine, unless you want it to corrode everything in the cooling system. (the coolant contains NaOH--the active ingredient in "lime-away" cleanser) So, if you have a leak, and you are outside the city, you get to try water-only in your potmetal-based block. I seldom see volkwagon coolant sold anywhere but the dealer or a very, very well stocked parts store. The electrical problems are quite widespread on this vehicle.....and all electrical problems take extra diagnostic time/money. Then, you get to pay for the parts and repair labor. Two fees, not one. (1-find it 2-fix it) Lastly, don't expect to be able to get replacement parts cheap.....most are dealer-only parts, and are pricey because they are imported. Cute doesn't cut it in this world.......sorry. Hondas and toyotas are more practical choices.

Q: Do you have a new Beetle?
I have a 2005 VW Beetle and the lights keep burning out. It's ridiculous, I'm changing bulbs every 2 or 3 months... or the light sockets need to be changed. Thankfully, the sockets are covered under warranty, but my warranty's almost expired! Does anyone else have this problem? If so, how are you dealing with it? Have you figured out a fix for it?

A: I had a 2003 New Beetle. I had similar headlight issues until I installed a higher quality bulb. I went with Sylvania Silver-star They cost a bit more, but will give you a better light. The H1 set up in the 99-2005 New Beetle was not the best. They made some improvement in 2006+ headlights going with H7 & H11 bulb for the fogs. We have different headlight issues now, which I wont go into since you don't have the newest Beetle issue. Try a better bulb. Good Luck. Dont touch the glass part of the bulb, that will cause premature bulb failure. Happy Bugging!

Q: How much will this cost to fix?
I have a 2005 vw beetle convertable and the driver side rear window is broken. When you press the switch to raise or lower the window, the gears still grind but something is not catching. It sounds like either a plastic piece broke or a screw came loose or something. Does anyone have any idea how much that should cost to fix? I live in the southeast kansas area.

are there any stores that still sell a beetle convertible from like 2004 or 2005? are they going to be cheaper than the new ones? do they sell it in white or black?

A: Try Carmax (www.carmax.com) they will be used but still much cheaper than brand new or try your local VW dealership, they have certified preowned from time to time.

Q: Convertible top?
I just purchased a 2005 vw beetle convertible. How much snow/ice can accumulate on the top before I have to worry about the convertible top failing?

A: If parked it is safe for the weight of a man to be on the roof..If driving, by LAW you are supposed to clean the roof off before going out onto the roadway to prevent flying ice and snow from hitting the cars behind you...everyone should be aware of this and also to put on their lights in any inclement weather too.
