I just got a new '07 Beetle but the Owner's Manual was out of date and the dealer had to order one (4 weeks+). I can't figure out how to lean the front seats up to get into the back seat. Can someone give me instructions on how to lean the front seats up? Thanks in advance!!!

Q: 2007 VW Beetle Convertible.. Review? Advice?
Hi Everyone! For my first car I think I am going to purchase a 2007 VW Beetle Covertible..[Triptonic Automatic Transmission] Most likely the Salsa red with a tan top, and grey leatherette seats. PLEASE STATE YOUR PERSONAL PREFERENCE OF COLOR AND TOP COMBINATIONS! =]] thanks. What does everyone think of them? How do they drive? I'd really like others' comments to consider if I really want this car. I'd like to gather plenty of input before making that decision. PS: ANY PET OWNERS WHO HAVE ONE? ANY GERMAN SHEPHARD DOG OWNERS? HOW DO YOU EFFECTIVELY TRANSPORT YOUR DOGS? HOW DO ALL OUR GSD OWNERS CONTROL SHEDDING IN YOUR CARS? Thanks to anyone who contributes!! I know it's not really relevant, but does anyone think that since I had been planning to get one for a few years, and my friend just bought the salsa red with a BLACK top, if it is copying her? I just don't want to steal her thunder or make her feel like we are in competition or something. After reading the first answer, would it be worth my while to purchase an extended warranty[If I decide on purchasing the VW]? Does anyone know [generally] what the warranties cover? Has anyone had trouble with the covertible top itself, and/or damages because or to the top? [I know the top is a special kind of cloth.. how does this compare to the Vinyl[sp?] ?

A: I wouldn't believe the first inquiry too much - VWs are ranked among Mercerdes and BMWs typically in their performance and ability. I look at the vehicle in two ways - the body type and the engine make. The body is a revision since 2004 of the original 1998 hardtop design - pretty solid in general. In 2005, they made some crucial positive changes to the window actions with the top. The engine is brand new - the 2005 model had the older 2.0L 4-cylinder engine which has now switched to a large 2.5L 5-cylinder engine. The press isn't out how well it's been performing over the long run, but VW has banked on this engine for almost every car it has, so it should be pretty solid. I have the 2005 NB Convertible and I think it's a decent car. In the snow, it's one of the best handling car and this has been true since the original 1998 design. When the top is up, you should realize that the car has some pretty good unavoidable blindspots because there is a major piece of tarp up where your vision would normally would be. When the top is down, the vision is more superior than any other car normally. The windstop is crucial for travel with the top down at temps of 55 F or higher. The windstop really does work well and is standard with all new models (not standard in 2005). The windstop does remove the back seat essentially. In summer temps, travel is good on city streets with the top down, and okay on highways for short distances. As for dog hair, clean up is very easy because top down cleaning means you can vaccuum easier than any other car. The vinyl seats do not crack or chip at all (like circa 1970's cars) and will not collect dog hair. You should know the size of the trunk - it is very small compared to most cars - however compared to most convertibles it is a decent size. Compared to other covertibles, the VW Beetle is immense (compared to Miata and BMW counterparts) and only a Cadillac is larger in size interior-wise. Finally, as for copying your friend, not the case. There is an unsaid code among all VW NB Convert owners to wave to one another, getting stared at for having an awesome car is something you should get used to. It does happen because people wish they were having as much fun as you.

Q: Should I lease a 2007 vw beetle?
I've done alot of research and have come to the decision that i'd like a convertable vw beetle. I've read tons of reviews. Most have been very positive. A few have been negative. Im not sure which to believe. Before I make my final decision I'd like to hear from anyone who drives a new beetle.

A: I would never lease any vehicle, unless I can write the lease off my taxes. After all, a lease if basically a long-term rental, with a big expense at the end (or nothing to show for it at all.) always buy - that way, you can at least sell it when you're through with it.

Q: Anyone own a 2006 or 2007 VW Beetle? Any problems with it?
Thinking of buying one. Any 2007 owners have any words of advice. (Please 2007 only)

A: My wife got a 2006 Beetle package 1 with auto in april of 2006. The only problem we have had was at 7000miles on May 14, 2007 the entire front suspension went bad. We took it to the dealer and they only had the car for 1 1/2 days. It was covered by the warrenty and the quick turnaround wasn't bad. That's the only thing we have had happen.

Q: where can i get some body kits for a 2007 VW beetle
i was thinking about getting a cool front and back bumper for a 07 beetle maybe even a spoiler i want it to look sporty please post links

A: The New body style (2006+) doesn't have much available. I speak from experience since I traded my 2003, (which had tons of mods). I can't find much od anything my 2007 New Beetle. Happy Buggin' ps Beetle is NOT a girls car... More than half of the Beetles in the DFW New Beetle Club belong to guys!

Q: My 2007 VW Beetle is about to reach 5,000 mi, and by that time maintenance is scheduled so...?
Do I have to take it when it reaches the exact 5,000 mi? Haha, ok, I know that's impossible, but what happens if I take it when it reaches 5,100 mi?! Would that void my warranty cause of negligence?! I don't think I have enough money right now... also, should I expect it to cost ~$100? ~$200?! The manual only says it needs an oil and filter change and checking of the brake pad system. Please be easy on me, this is my first new car... and if it helps at all, I live in TX. Thanks in advance...

A: oil and filter is all you need, going over will not effect your warranty. brake system should not even be a concern 25 to 30 dollars is all you need to spend.

Q: 2007 vw new beetle?
i want to change the engine oil. the dealer told me to change the oil every 5,000 miles? is this true? what kind of oil show i use, i have 4500 miles on it.

A: use a good synthetic of the viscosity that manufacture suggest or mobil 1 15000 extended warranty synthetic which i use .

Q: Check Engine Light Brand New VW Beetle?
I have a 2007 VW New Beetle with 900 miles on it. The check engine light just came on. Any ideas of why this might have happened? Thank you, Daniel

A: No. It's brand new, take it to the dealer and have him put the code reader on the engine computer. The dealer will find out why it came on and fix the problem.

Q: VW Beetle ?
I was wondering if a 2000-2007 model VW Beetle would be a good first car (are they safe, and reliable). I know it's a German made car,so would that be really expensive to fix? Also I want to get a paint job and have the body color a light pink, would that make insurance higher or anything? This is the type of car I'm looking at,I'm actually looking into buying this specfic one! http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp;?tracktype=usedcc&searchType=21&pageNumber=0&numResultsPerPage=50&largeNumResultsPerPage=0&sortorder=descending&sortfield=PRICE+descending&certifiedOnly=false&criteria=K-%7cE-%7cM-_48_%7cB-15000%7cD-_1307_%7cN-N%7cR-30%7cI-1%7cP-PRICE+descending%7cQ-descending%7cZ-02882&aff=national&paId=260262410&recnum=2&leadExists=true

A: they are not reliable they are on consumer reports list of used cars to avoid. that means they are requiring more repairs and having more problems than other cars. the only year they say to buy is the 2002 98-01 & 03-07 are not recommended. the 2008 scored low in side impact crash test and well below average in reliability. I read many reviews the most common complaints are the small trunk and tiny sun visors, poorly designed cup holders peeling door handles and poor rear visibility. others claim to love the car and have had no problems. so it appears that if you get a bad one, it's very bad and that's too much of a risk to take. owner complaints 2003's The interior is NOT classy. The plastic or whatever its made of is peeling off the door handle on the inside. I HAD issues with the windows rolling up and down, but after several hundred dollars we fixed that. UM It's had like 2 or 3 recalls. I've been through 3 different windshields in the last year. I had to get a new key made ..$400. Electrical issues with both (00,03) of my New Beetles. Also weird window issues on the 2003. Problem with both cars concerning the airbag light coming on for no reason and the "lightening bolt" your engine is really gonna blow light illuminating for no apparent reason on both cars.Electrical/sensors.Rear breaks needed replacing early on the 2000, I only have 21k on the 03....had it in the shop about 10-12 times for odd stuff Very bad Quality car. Numerous windshield wiper problems, air bags deployed for no reason, lights/electrical problems...not the car I thought it would be. This was all within a year and VW wont cover any of the problems under warranty. Have had to too many electrical problems with vehicle, am currently looking into lemon law. have had for almost 2 years and ready to get rid of. only 12000 miles on. also interior starts to peel around door handles and glove box

Q: Which would you choose? Toyota Rav4, Jeep Wrangler, VW Jetta, VW Beetle, Honda Fit or Mini Cooper (2004-2007)?
I'm going to be trading in my 2005 Toyota Corolla for another car. Makes & models in contention are: Toyota Rav4, Jeep Wrangler, VW Jetta, VW Beetle, Honda Fit, Mini Cooper. I need help making a choice. THE MOST IMPORTANT factor being the car's service record. Have you had or do you know of any problems with any of the cars listed?

A: THE TOYOTA RAV-4 WILL BE YOUR BEST BET FOR THE LONG RUN AND IT IS VERY RELIABLE.
