Q: is there a computer in a 1988 VW Fox Wagon?
I was wondering if there is a computer for the fuel injection system on a 1988 VW Fox Wagon?

A: yes there is

Q: Why could my 87 vw fox be leaking oil into the air filter assembly?
Oil is coming from the crankcase ventilation hose into the air filter assembly. It's the 1.8 liter four cylinder also found on Golfs and Jetta's of the time.

A: your vent system is clogged. common problem with volkswagens. replace it with new and your problem should be solved

Q: 87 vw fox i was woundering if anyone knew how to compleatly rebulid the motor?
my car only gets 7 miles to the gallon and i am just looking for someone to walk me step by step thrugh rebuliding the motor if you know please feel free to e-mail me at gmhoffman08@yahoo.com

A: Make sure you do not have a recall that will pay for part of the rebuild. They had a bunch of soft camshafts for a while.

Q: How do you replace the clutch cable on a '93 VW Fox?
Depressed the clutch pedal to start the car, and felt the cable snap....leaving the pedal limp on the floor....anybody?

A: It is actually pretty easy. The cable has easy connectors on each end. Buy a new cable and remove the old. You can see it under the hood. One end is near the transmission and the other end is near the firewall.

Q: VW Fox (1991) Clutch has no pressure, what can be wrong?
The clutch on my 91 VW Fox seems to have lost pressure. It goes into gear fine and I dont have any problem while its in gear, its just that when I press down on the clutch, I basically have no resistance. I have heard a couple of different things as to what it might be. So, to praphrase what I just said: I can get into gear and have no problem with the speed, I just have no resistance with the clutch pedal. Thank you! The clutch on my 91 VW Fox seems to have lost pressure. It goes into gear fine and I dont have any problem while its in gear, its just that when I press down on the clutch, I basically have no resistance. The clutch doesnt stay on the floor or anything weird like that, it just feels like im stepping on air and it jumps right back into normal position right after I get into gear and release it. I have heard a couple of different things as to what it might be. So, to praphrase what I just said: I can get into gear and have no problem with the speed, I just have no resistance with the clutch pedal. Thank you! The clutch fluid on my car is also the brake fluid. Ho do I know if its hydraulic or not? Is the a way to test to see if its the slave or master cylinders?

A: to add to other responses....if it is hydraulic and you fluid levels are fine you may have a slave cylinder or master cylinder going bad.

Q: My 93 vw fox will start and run but after i turn it off it will not start for a couple of hours?
it also idles very rough it also idels rough, it smells like gas in the cab and it will not start after i drive a block or if i drive 50 miles no diff.

A: Sounds like you are not getting regular fuel pressure to the motor. If that's the original fuel pump on the car, it's probably getting ready to die. Get it checked out ASAP. Also, you may want to check into a condition called vaopr lock. I had a Dodge (older car) that had this condition - you'd start it up, run it for a while, then after you shut it off, it would not start for a while. I do not know if this condition applies to diesels, nor do I know if you car is indeed a diesel, but you may want to look into it.

Q: 91 vw fox gas in oil pan-runs great until this happens-happens when it is was very cold sub zero?

A: You have washed the cylinder walls with fuel and the fuel has now gone past the rings and into the crank case. Continuous cranking in a extreme cold condition can cause this problem.I have seen oil pans blown off of engines by people trying to start a vehicle in this condition. Take it to a shop to be thawed out and have the oil and filter changed. A fresh set of plugs would probably be a good idea as well. Good Luck

Q: how do i replace dimmer rheostat switch on 91 vw fox?
How do i remove the old one

A: i think it just pops out.....a couple of connectors on the rear..simply just replace with the new one

Q: I am having problems with the clutch on my 1988 VW fox?
when I was reversing one day I pused in the clutch shifted and tried to reverse. The car was not in gear I tried several times to put it into gear then the next time I tried to release the clutch it wasn't there. It was to the floor and just flapping around... any ideas of what this might be? I really need to figure out if its even worth fixing!!!

A: Yes, something has broken. I know that sounds obvious but what I mean is that it was a sudden failure, so either the cable snapped or the connection the the clutch throw-out lever has come off. It's also theoretically possible that the pivot bolt the pedal rides on has let go but I've never heard of it happening. If it's just the cable or throw-out lever connection it's actually not a very complicated repair and worth doing if you still like your car :)

Q: Stock ride heigth on 89 VW fox?
I am entering pure stock races with a 89 vw fox I need to know what the lowest stock ride height is on it if any one knows.

A: Very difficult to find the right answer. Looked all over VW pages and blogs, and there's not much info on the subject. No wonder you asked. Maybe next time...

Q: VW FOX 1993 O2 sensor location?
i need help finding the location of the o2 sensor for a VW Fox if you could help me out i would really be greatful

A: There is going to be at least one on the catalytic converter, and often an upstream sensor, on the exhaust manifold, at the back of the engine on this car, to the right or the battery on the firewall, and down.

Q: Radio code for VW fox?
Have a '93VW fox, and cassette deck/stereo won't come on because of it's security system. I have tried to enter the old code, but it doesn't recognize. Any VW sound experts out there? The old stereo wasn't bad, but may have to replace.

A: i've got your answer.. drive her up pike's peak and give her a good shove. marty appler from boulder

Q: 87' Vw Fox Lowering Help?
I have an 87' VW FOX and I am wanting to lower it! I was wondering if I would be able to use jetta lowering springs from or around the same year as my fox? Please someone help, I cannot seem to find springs or kits to lower the car..THanks

A: The Fox doesn't use the same springs as a Jetta. In fact, they were built in 2 different countries (Jetta in Germany, Fox in Brazil). You could always use the Jesse James method of warming the coils with a torch until they sag to the height you want. Might weaken them tho. I've done this on non-VW's. Gotta have the car's weight on the springs when you do it, and KEEP THE HEAT MOVING over the entire spring. Most importantly, know when to stop.

Q: Any comments on the VW Fox as I am thinking of buying one?

A: there is a new fox as the guy above doesn't know lol, and my friend has 1 and she says its really good, fuel efficient, cheap, and its a VW so pretty reliable car, im not that keen on the looks but its all down to personal taste

Q: My VW Fox stationwagon starts, runs, then dies after about 6 blocks. Why would it do this? Any ideas please?

A: Sounds like a fuel delivery issue (put a pressure gauge on the fuel rail, see if it holds pressure after it warms up), or electronic. Could very well be the pick-up in the distributor, or the control module cutting out once it gets hot (when the car cuts out, pull a plug wire & check for spark).
