I was just wondering what the diffrence is between a 2000 VW GTI 2.8 2 door manual wolfsburg edition and the regular 2000 VW GTI ....
A: wolfsburg is where they make them in germany and those are still assmbled in mexico not in germany
Q: What can I add to a vw gti 1.8 t automatic to make it perform better?
I bought an 04 vw gti 1.8t and it's an automatic. I know that I can't really add much to it, but I was wondering if I could do anything to improve performance. also would it be pointless to add a bodykit and other exterior modifications?
A: The 1.8T engine is one of the most modifiable engines around, you can get over 400 hp out of this engine. Bigger turbo, computer chips, inter coolers, freer flowing turbo plumbing the list is endless.
Q: Anyone know if it is possible to convert a 2000 VW GTI 1.8 T, automatic into a hybrid - or bio-diesel?
I own a 2000 vw gti. I am now very much wishing i hadn't allowed the salesman to talk me out of a diesel engine. However, i hate to get another vehicle when mine is paid off and running well. But would really like it if it were more eco friendly. Any ideas?
A: Easiest and cheapest way to make your GTI more eco-friendly is to drive it less. :) Buy a bike, put it in the back, drive halfway to work, park it and bike the rest then you have essentially made your commute half as expensive.
Q: I am trying to figure out what the speaker layout is for a 2005 (last year of the older model) VW GTI?
Need the sizes and total number of speakers for a 2005 VW GTI. Thanks.
A: There are a total of, if I remembering this correctly, 6 speakers in a GTI. There are 4 tweeters and 4 mid/low speakers. The tweeters in the front are located on the door opposite the mirrors. The Mid/low are very obviously placed on the lower part of the door cards. In the rear, the tweeters are located on the side panels above the armrests. The mid/lows are located on the same panel but closer to the floor.
I am unsure of the tweeter size. Tweeters in the size range, according to cructhfield, are 1/2"-1". As for the mid/low speakers, their size should be 6 1/2" or possibly 6 3/4"
Q: Should I buy a new VW GTI, or an old Audi A4?
I can afford either car. I really like the hatchback convenience and fun factor of the 2007 VW GTI, but I've always liked the older Audi A4(1997-2001), and found a clean one for a great price. I can't decide and would love some great input. Thanks
A: i drive an 04 GTI VR6 and let me tell you that it is a FUN car.....im sure that the 07 GTI is probably the same...now i dont know if you are more for speed or more for luxury but if you're for speed the new GTI can keep up with my car no problem and im running a 2.8L V6 the new gti is a 2.0L turbocharged with 197HP i forgot how much torque but knowing vw its probly not less than 180lbft...if the A4 you're looking at is a 1.8T, it has the same engine as the 99-04 GTI with a 1.8L turbocharged engine...if its the A4 2.8L then it has the 12v 2.8L V6 which is pretty much the same engine as my car......but if it was up to me i would definately get the 07 GTI get it manual too if you really want to have fun!! neways if you want check out my car at

Q: How can I retrieve the engine code on an 02 VW GTI?
The engine light just turned on and I'd like to get the codes to begin troubleshooting it. I know how to get them off of a honda and I figure there must be a way to get them off of a VW too?
A: Go to Advanced auto parts! The have an obd2 scanner there and they'll pull the codes for free. And I beleive they can reset the codes too after you fix whatever it is that's causing the light to come on

Q: What year of the VW GTI is best if I only have $4k to spend?
I heard the gas consumption between the VR6 & 2.0liter GTIs aren't a big difference so I am going to go with the VR6. Plus the VR6 is a lot faster.
I am looking for a reliable GTI; so I'm wondering which year has the best ratings and keep in mind I have a $4k budget so I won't be able to get the newer GTIs obviously.
A: They are right, you are in the wrong arena for 4K bucks.
87-92 Mk II 16V in 1.8 or 2.0L, preferrably one owned by a freak like me with all the right bits installed may be your best bet.
8V GTI's with drum brakes are an abhorrent nightmare to be avoided (MK II). eeeeeeeeow!
MK III just aren't ripping enough(soft wussy things). Budget busters anyway.
Pristine MK I GTI of collector interest mostly. Daily driver, no.

Q: What car would give better performance the honda civic si or vw gti?
And what if u would to supercharge the si as oppose to upgrading the turbo on the GTI?
A: Stock - the GTI would outrun the Honda, even though the horsepower is roughly the same, the turbo has much more torque. If upgraded - who knows? There are so many options here there's no way to answer that question - there are too many potential choices/factors.
If you want faster than these, buy an Evo or WRX Sti - because you'll need AWD to put that extra power to the pavement.
Q: Is it possible to switch a VR6 Motor from a 2001 VW GTI to a R32 motor?
I have a VW GTI 2001 with a VR6 motor and i have tuned it up fairly well! I want to get a bigger motor by switching it to a R32 motor but i want to know if it is a direct fit and where can i get one?? please help me!
A: Everything is possible, altough I do not think that it's worth it. You will need new control modules, fuse boxes, the whole wiring harnesses and so on. Just buy an R32 and save some headache for yourself, unless you wanna re-engineer that car ( you will need to). :))
Q: How to make my 2000 VW GTI look like one of the 2007 or 2006's?
I would like to change the head lights, and the front of the car to look like on of the new ones, I've looked on Ebay for headlights now I need a web site, or parts dealer that is legal and can ensure that their parts are not chop shop parts. Do you know of any web sites that carry body kits for the that look like the new GTI's. Also do you know of any places that could put a body kit on because I do not have time to do it myself. Thanks

Q: which vehicle is better when modded, the 08 vw gti or the 08 honda si?
In other words if i were to buy either, which car would respond better to modifications: si with a supercharger/turbo or upgraded turbo on the gti with the works?
A: There are likely more parts available for a Honda than a VW. The Japanese makes are more easily modded because of all of the manufacturers making and testing equipment for them.
I own a Dodge and Mopar (Dodge's parts division) seems to be the source for most of the mods. Meanwhile, car magazines have many ads listing thousands of parts for Japanese makes. It is disconcerting that I need to rely on a corporation to design parts that push the envelope rather than an entrepreneur driven by a real desire to innovate and get more power out of a car.

Q: Why does my 2001 vw gti vr6 rattle only when I accelerate?
Rattling occurs it seems from the bottom of the car and goes away once I'm in 3rd gear. Could it be the exhaust?
A: I would have your mechanic look at the undercarriage and see if something's broken or loose. I've had to do this for every one of my vehicles at one point or another as normal maintenance.
Q: How many watts of power is put out by my 2005 VW GTI cigarette lighter?
I want to charge my MacBook Pro in my car, but it needs at least 85 watts of power. How much power does my cigarette lighter provide?

A: I have a converter. DC to AC power. The converter is enough to run and charge a lap top, not Mac Book. You have to try it and and see what happens. One way would be to find a 100 watt light bulb and see if it plays when you plug your converter in. Just take any old lamp.
