Q: trouble with a 2001 VW GTI?
I am having trouble with my VW GTI its a 2001..it lags when you step on the gas , and doesnt fully speed up until the turbo kicks in..the clutch seems to be working fine, also when you start it up it has a rough time idealing, like it sputters.. what could be wrong with it?
yes it does have a check engine light...for about a year know , but i recently got the car back, i do remember someone telling me that an air sensor was bad..how much does a mass airflow cost?
A: Mass Air flow sensor or your secondary air pump is messed up......Check engine light???
Q: Replaced catalytic converter in a 2001 VW GTI 1.8t having issues?
I am having issues with some repairs I just had done on my 2001 VW GTI 1.8t (AWW engine)
I replaced my:
catalytic converter and both of my o2 sensors
I was getting a P0420 code and so I replaced my o2 sensors first hoping that was it. But then after the dreaded drive cycle the code returned. So the only thing left was the cat. and now my car runs, in my opinion, worse than before. Does it have anything to do with the type of cat that was used or could it be poor installation? Also, there are weird squeaking sound coming from under my car like the exhaust is moving slightly. I am really frustrated and have put about $1200+ into my car in the last 2 weeks. Is there anything that I am not thinking of. Before my car ran smooth even with a bad cat (and yes it was bad.) Now it shakes at 1900 RPM and squeaks continuously (ONLY WHEN MOVING)???? WTF
No my Check Engine Light is not on.
The cat was replaced by a certified VW, Audi, Porsche specialty shop. I originally replaced my o2 sensors on my own hoping it would fix it and when that didn't work I got the cat replaced. I used OE Bosch sensors and the cat was a "universal cat" due to the fact that I was told that an stock replacement would have cost me twice as much, and that it wouldn't make that much difference.
This actually took about 3 weeks of diagnosing from three different Pro shops, for me to finally get the work done. My Cat was bad and my o2 sensors were bad because of it. The only reason it took so ling is because it was miss diagnosed the first time.
A: hmm - is your check engine light comming back on?
Who installed the o2's and cat - you or a dealer? Who read and cleared the codes? It is typical that bad o2's over time can ruin a cat..especially if it was causing the car to run rich.
When your o2's go bad, it will either really richen up the fuel intake, or really lean it out...either way not good. If it richened it up and was really pouring the fuel to it, it may have fouled up your spark plugs...although i would think youd now be gettign a code for an engine miss if it was that bad.
The squeek does sound like exhaust hangers..
Good luck.
Q: My 2001 VW GTI EPC light is on...is this in regards to the recall?
I have a hard time starting it and then it seems to be ideling high and the brakes are hard to push. I called VW but the service department was no help... they were like ETC? or your engine light? AHHHH...I just want to know why it's doing it and if it's safe to drive. E-mail me with responses...thanks.
A: Not really enough info to completely narrow it down, but there's a couple of guesses.
The ECT sensor with cause a light, but rarely makes the car run as bad as you describe.
If it's a 1.8T, could be coil trouble.
Q: how do i get more power out of my 2001 VW Gti?
A: Cheap and easy ways are install better plugs, K&N air filter or similar, go to synthetic oil, use overdrive pulleys, install a cold air intake, get or reprogram the cars control chip, install a less restrictive exaughst.
More expensive options include a larger injectors, better intake, headers, and other engine mods.
Q: 2001 VW GTI 1.8T Problem, Air like noise?
I just got my car back from the shop, I had the valve cover gasket replaced and a few other little things. And now after driving it for about 50 miles I here a blowing air like sound, it only happens when the turbo kicks in (or at least thats what I think?) as soon as I let-off/back-off the gas it stops. I am not losing any power and the car seems to be fine. Help... Any Ideas?
A: the turbo charger produces pressurized air, if you are hearing an air leak, there are only two types, an internal leak, and an external leak, if you have an external leak, not only will you lose power, you will also get a check engine light for a rich condition, so i will assume an internal leak. by far the most common cause of this is the turbo recirculation valve, also known as a diverter valve, a common 18t problem
hope this helps
Q: 2001 VW GTI Airbag light?
The Dealership says I need an airbag and harness replaced to pass Maryland inspection.
$1,150 - ouch!
I would like to clip the wire to the bulb or reset the switch or do something to turn off the dashboard light.
anyone know how to do this?
A: If there is a warning light on the dashboard it will mean that there is a problem with the airbag safety circuit and potentially could be an issue in a crash. That said if you can find the fuse that controls the air bags, pull it out and the light should go out. Don't worry about the air bag opening as there is not change of this happening unless you start screwing around with the wires to the air bag.
Q: a/c for 2001 VW gti vr6?
Hi, my a/c is broken on my car. I figured it was refrigerant and bought an a/c compressor pressure test gauge but it said that the psi was 109. The max safe pressure is suppose to be 45 lol. Has anyone had this problem before? and if so what was the solution. thanks in advanced
nick
A: If the pressure is testing that high on the low side, the system has probably equalized and the compressor is not pumping. You will need a new compressor, and you should also replace the accumulator/drier and the expansion valve as well. Have the work done by a service shop with the proper equipment, and make sure they flush your system as well to avoid ruining the new compressor.
Q: 2001 VW GTi GLX VR6?
How much horsepower and torque does this car have and how many gears?
A: 2.8 liter with 5 speed with 174 horsepower 181 torque
Q: 2001 VW GTI fuel pump help!!!?
Can someone tell me what tool do i use to remove the black rubber ring around the fuel pump..
A: If you have access to a very large set of Channel Locks, they will work. I dont have large Channel Locks and use alternative tools. You can use large flat screwdiver or blunt chisel and tap it around using a hammer. Use the same tools to reinstall. Just be careful not to hit the same lugs too hard and cut them off. If you can get someone to help you, have them tap on one side while you tap on the other.
Q: Which car is easier to Maintenan and better , 1999-2000 Audi a4 or 1999-2001 VW golf or GTI?
I am thinking of buying a car, and I have stop on a AUDI A4 AND VW Golf or GTI
And I do not know which one will be better to buy .
I like A car to be fun to DRIVE
Thank you
A: The A4 is definitely something you will end up spending a lot of money on if you repair what is needed. Out of the two the Golf or GTI would be cheaper to maintain but even they are prone to some expense repairs if you cannot 'do it yourself''. On a positive note a Golf or GTI with the 1.8 turbo engine can definitely be a fun ride stock or modified.
Q: VW golf 2001 gti with standerd vw radio, how do you turn off the tp (traffic prog) setting once it is selected?

Q: missfire on a 2001 vw golf GTI , ?
Ive had a diagnostics done and it says that its cylinder 1 that's miss fireing, so i replaced the leads and spark plugs, the problem went away for a few weeks and its happening again on the same cylinder, any suggestions on what else i can do???
A: Your coil could be cracked causing it to arc out at the cylinder 1 lead.
Also if you put in the wrong spark plugs. Volkswagen is VERY picky when it somes to plugs. You cannot us Platnium plugs. Nor any other off brand. Your choice is Bosch or NGK. But it all depends on what plug came out. If it used NGK's you must replace with NGK's. Same with Bosch.
Q: What could cause this car to overheat? VW GTI.?
My brother has a 2001 VW GTI. He isn't exactly car-savvy. He has been keeping up on all the fluids and driving the car in freeway traffic daily. Two weeks ago he went out in the morning to head for work and noticed his anti-freeze/coolant in a puddle on the drive way. He re-filled with water.
He found a cracked water hose going from his water overflow to his radiator. He tried to drive the car a few miles to the auto parts store to see if they had the part but noticed he was losing too much fluid. He waited for the car to cool off, put more water in it and went back home. Later that day he took the bus down to get the hose and replaced it and the fluids. He tried to drive the car again, but the car over heats within a few miles.
When he sees the gauge hot he pulls over and sees the water overflow bubbling.
He needs to save up to take the car to the shop, so in the meantime we are wondering what could this be?
Cracked head? Stuck thermostat? Some silly relay switch?
Thanks!
A: If the car no longer leaks fluid but continues to overheat, it could very well be a stuck thermostat. When the guage starts to head into the danger zone, a quick fix is to turn the heat on full blast. It will keep the temp down enough to get where you are going. In any event have a mechanic check out the cooling system very soon.
Q: VW GTI HOW MUCH BHP HAS IT GOT ?
I'm thinking of getting a VW Golf 2001/2002 GTI model, now I've heard that if the logo, GTI is in silver its something like 120 BHP, & if the "i" in GTI is highlighted red then it is 130BHP, if the "TI" is highlighted red then it is 140BHP and if the whole GTI logo is highlighted red then the car will be 150 BHP.
is this true or was my friend chatting garbage
Cheers
Mr. Ash Ahmed
A: 2001 gti with the 1.8t has 150bhp
2002 gti with the 1.8t has 180bhp
2001/2002 gti with vr6 has 174bhp
it has nothing to do with the emblem
