Q: Where is the turbo located in a stock 2002 VW GTI?
I am going to be installing a manual boost control and I need to know where the turbo is located. I have not looked for it yet because I thought that this might be easier.
A: If you don't even know where your turbo is located, I would not suggest trying to install a manual boost controller. Some how I think you lack the responsibility to use it properly.
A MBC will give you the instant opportunity to blow up your motor. I would suggest having a professional install it and set your boost level.
On the GTI your turbo is between the motor and the firewall, under the exhaust manifold and slightly to the drivers side.
you do know that the MBC is going to attach to the wastegate though, not the turbo itself.
I hope.
Q: What is the best preformance chip to get for a 2002 VW GTI 1.8T?
I have a 1.8T Stock GTI and Im wanting to get a preformance chip, but dont know which one is the best, so If you know of one please let me know where I can find it. And also how hard it is to install?
A: For chip there are a lot of options...
Generally APR seems to be the most popular or at least most wanted chip upgrade. Everyone likes the switchable programs, the smooth power bands, and the monster power gains. You also have other programming options available at additional cost. http://www.goapr.com/
Among the more popular options for chip upgrades is Garrett or GIAC. These are known to be selectively good but overall one of the better chip upgrades you can get for your Audi/VW. http://www.giacusa.com/
Less expensive, still effective, but less popular and from a well-known and long standing player in the Audi/VW business... Neuspeed. People give Neuspeed a lot of crap for not being Garrett or APR... but honestly, every Neuspeed owner appreciates the fact that they got tons of power for half the price of either. There are no options... you're either chipped or not, not switchable, no custom programs, just Neuspeed. http://www.neuspeed.com/
REVO... awesome. Everyone agrees. This is the upgrade everyone seems to want. There are tons of options just like APR. It's also very pricy but the word is it is well worth it. http://www.revotechnik.com/
There are a number of others... TAP is one that used to be popular when the first A4 became available... but just fell off the radar and frankly they just do not offer as good a product or as wide distribution. If you research chip upgrades you will undoubtedly run across APR, GIAC, Revo, and Neuspeed the most often. Their websites also have lists of distributors so you can find a local installer to get your ECU chipped.
Keep in mind that in most cases, you will have to have your ECU removed, shipped to one of the chipmakers, installed, shipped back, and reinstalled. Turnaround time is the same day at the shop so you will need three days to get it all done... no car for three days.
Do your research on vwvortex or audiworld or 20vturbo and find out which chip is going to work best for you. It's also going to depend on your location so do your research.
If you're in SoCal check out Eurocode in Torrance. http://www.eurocodetuning.com or Greedspeed ... http://www.greedspeed.com
At Greedspeed they can actually do a Neuspeed chip upgrade while you wait. 2 hour turnaround in some cases. Just make an appointment.
Good luck.

Q: New Brake Rotors for a 2002 VW GTI? Which brand is best?
Hello, I'm looking for brake rotors For a 2002 VW GTI VR6 ( 6speed) (F+R)
A: I'd suggest EBC Sport Rotors. $178.95 for the fronts and $127.95 for the rear. Here are some of the good things about them:
Beat the heat of old-fashioned discs and discover consistently powerful braking with the EBC Sport Rotors
EBC custom crafts your Sport Rotors for a direct replacement of your stock discs—no modification needed
Each EBC Sport Rotor has wide-mouth slots that suck in cold air to ice down intense surface temperatures
The slots run out to the edge of your EBC Sport Rotors to push out dirt, dust and grit for even pad wear and a longer lifespan
Precisely bored dimples vent pad gases and protect against brake fade
Unlike crack-prone cross-drilled rotors, your dimpled EBC Sport Rotors maintain their structural integrity
EBC casts your Sport Rotors from a unique blend of alloys for optimal strength, durability and weight
Your EBC Sport Rotors arrive pre-balanced for smooth, wobble-free use
Forget about rust—all EBC Sport Rotors have a gold anodized-zinc coating for imports or a black anodized-zinc coating for American vehicles to ward off corrosion on the non-swept surfaces
Come in pairs for both the front and rear of your car, truck or SUV
EBC covers your Sport Rotors with a 6-month/5,000 mile warranty
They can be purchased at Autoanything.com and you get free shipping. Hope this helps!
Q: i have a 2002 vw gti vr6 and i cant find an exhaust system or turbo kit for it, where can i find this?
i wana turbo and put a full system on but i cant find either anywhere
A: check out mjmautohaus.com. There is a link below.
Q: where is the cabin air filter located on a 2002 vw gti?
A: Open your hood, the black plastic piece that runs the length beneath your windshield, its under there on the passenger side. Careful, it is easy to break.
Q: Which should I pick, 2002 Lincoln LS or a 2002 VW GTI. Let me know what you think. Leave your car of choice.?
A: GTI gets much better fuel economy, and will most likely hold its value better. Thus, even if they are the same price today, in a couple years you will be way ahead with the VW.
That said, I like the looks of the Lincoln LS, and if it had a 5 speed manual (only available with the V6), I would go for the LS.
Q: what is the standard wheel offset dimension for 2002 VW GTI.?
A: the 16 inch alloys are:
6.5J x 16" ET42
The 17" wheels were 7Jx17" ET38 and the 7.5J x 18" wheels were also ET 38
Q: what size are the stock speakers in a 2002 VW GTI 1.8T?
A: 6.5" in the door and rear panel
Q: which is a better first car for a young teenager? a 2001 lexus is300, a 2002 acura rsx or a 2002 vw gti?
A: with the VW you will have problems in a few years, a lot of problems. Lexus and Acura are both good companies they have high crash test ratings and both last a very long time. I would get an RSX (not a type-s). I am 16 and I love and study cars. I am temporarily driving my sisters civic. My brother has a RSX and is very pleased with it.(same brother had a VW Jetta GTI very fast and turbo but it would need something major replaced yearly, costs a lot of money to fix it too, because parts were flown from Germany) The RSX manuel gets 32 mpg city driving thats a bonus.
so in short the RSX but if you cant find one go with the lexus
Q: 2002 gti vw airbag light on?
Just got in this morning and it was on.. nothing to cause that i can think of.. wasnt on last night.. thank you in advance
A: One of the more common failures is a clock spring. It is a connector interface in the steering column under the steering wheel. But I would suggest you get a tech to pull the DERM codes, find the actual problem and repair accordingly. I do not recommend you do this yourself. These airbag systems can be touchy and only qualified tech's should make this repair.
Q: how do i replace the headlights...VW GTI 2002?
please serious answers only
A: VW has a simple push/pull headlight release system. On top of the headlight there should be a couple of black metal tabs that push back and pull up.This will release the headlight assembly, from there you can remove the light
Q: I have a 2002 1.8T VW GTI.. and i was wondering if the VW GOLF both have the same exhaust system?
i ask this because im about to buy a aftermarket exhaust system... and the website i want to buy it from only has it for the VW GOLF.. are they the same thing?.. heres the website...
http://www.x3racing.com/products/product_detail.asp?prodid=TS-CB-VG9918T
please help me out... or if u have other good websites... thank you..
A: while not cheap, the best is from GHL. They sound great, while many of the 1.8t exhausts sound too much like a fart can. the GHL gives you a good resonance and growl sound.
i knew a guy with it on his 20th anni (also a 1.8t), and it was the best 1.8 ive heard (and ive heard a LOT). Its totally worth the extra money.
Q: what is the difference between the 2002 subaru WRX turbo-charger and the 2001 vw golf gti ?
please answer by giving the turbo type and size and answering which is bigger.
A: The stock WRX turbo is the Mitsubishi TD04-13G which is a 360 cfm (22 lbs per minute) turbo.
The GTI uses a KKK K series turbo. Not sure which one.
