Q: 2005 vw gti 1.8t = How do i open the alarm remote to change the battery?
A: I suspect that it's a flip key so I found this on the net :
What you need before you start:
A small flat head screwdriver, or small knife, and a CR2032 battery
Step 1: Have your key with the VW logo facing up
Step 2: Insert small screwdriver (or small knife) into the slot between key and transmitter(part with the buttons) [I find it easiest to use the knife as a lever to help separate them]
Step 3: Pull apart the key and transmitter
Step 4: Separate the two halves of the transmitter. You should be able to do this with your thumb and forefinger with relative ease.
Step 5: Dislodge the battery
Step 6: Insert the new battery(+ goes down). Then push the key fob back together
Step 7: Check to make sure the little indicator light still blinks

Q: What is the better car...2005 VW GTI or 2003 Audi A4?
Which will be the better choice for maintainance, reliability, commuting and possible snow driving (winter)? Both have about 25K miles, are about 16K-!7K in price and are in excellent condition. Thanks, I need to make a decision soon and can use any input.
A: definitely the 1999 Renault Luaguna
Q: Is a 2005 VW GTI VR6 also a MK IV?
A: yes it is
Q: Why won't 2005 VW GTI Engine start?
My car sat for a little over a week while I was away. When I came back, it was buried in snow. I dug out the door, used the keyless entry to unlock it, turned on the power (but not the engine), had the radio on and turned on the rear defroster. After awhile, the radio shut off without my noticing. When I finally shoveled enough snow to move the car, I got in the car. I turned the key and I heard a click but the engine didnt start. The dash board lights came on and the interior lights were also on. I took the key out and tried again with the same result. I did try pumping the gas (even though later I read that you should never do that.) I tried again and when I kept the key turned, this time there were multiple clicks and the lights in the dashboard flickered. I also noticed that every time I tried to start it, the clock reset. Did I drain the battery by having the radio and the rear defroster on for about an hour? Could it start after a night of waiting? Is it just the battery?
It started the next day. Thanks for everyone's input.
A: you killed your battery, running your accessories without the engine running.
Q: VW 2007-08 Gti OR VW 2003-2005 VR6?
i plan to mod both cars..... is it eaiser to mod the GTI because its already turbo
or do i want the bigger engine then make it turbo?
A: Get the MkV GTI. Its much more enjoyable then the VR6. Trust me.
Q: VW GTI- How Much Risk is Too Much?
I found this adorable 22,000 mi GTI 2007(minus the sun roof), 2.0T, at a small independent dealership for a price of a 2005 GTI in a VW dealership. The car appeares to be in great condition, runs great; one accident reported on Carfax (reared in March) but no airbags deployed. No records of any major repair.
My questions:
1. Does GTI manual recommends gasoline 91 or 93 octane? Today I called two different dealerships to ask this question and I got two different responses.
2. I cannot know if previous two owners used the recommended fuel octane. In case they did NOTconsistently use it, at what point in time would you expect to see some damage to the engine? What type of damage?
3. The car should still have some factory warranty left (3 ys for powertrain, 2 yrs for bumper to bumper coverage). One dealership told me that this worranty should be ok UNLESS I have a problem with an engine and a turbo- in that case I would need to produse records of the car maintenance as recommended by VW manual in order for the worranty to cover it (which I wouldn't have). Is the factory worranty good without the maintenance records? Do I need these maintenance records in order to purchase an extended warranty?
I love the car and would love to have it, but I want to avoid making a potentially costly mistake. Is it better to buy a VW from their dealership?? I would really appreciate any insight into this situation that would help me make a better purchase decision...
A: This question is rather easy and if you do it the right way and spend an extra $100 for an independent, certified inspection from a mechanic.
1) It is 91 octane that is required. Many stations only offer 89 or 93, which means you should put in the 93 or a mix of 93 and 89 (use 89 and then fill up with 93 when you get to 1/2 tank and go back and forth).
2) Have the car independently inspected and they will be able to tell you if there is any sort of engine damage that would have occured from using non-recommended fuel.
I would worry more about whether the oil was changed on-time, but a mechanic will be able to tell you engine wear, so this is an easy fix.
3) The factory warranty is good as long as the car has been properly maintained via the recommended intervals in your owner's/service manual. Again, an independent inspection from a certified mechanic will be able to answer this, easily.
If this is your car, make sure to have it inspected for the $100 or so. It will be more than worth it and will give you the piece of mind you need whether it is a good car or not.
Q: 2005 Ford Escape or 2002 VW GTI....which should I keep?
Looking to sell one. They are both in excellent condition. I paid both off already.
A: 2005 Ford Escape.
Better on gas milage. GTI will be more for insurance, it's considered a sports vehicle.
Ford Escape will also be better in inclimate weather
Q: Why does my car pull to the left during high acceleration?
I just got a 2005 VW GTI. During high acceleration from a stop, it will pull to the left pretty bad. Is that just an alignment problem? Thanks.
A: Is your car a FWD? It isn't torque steer?
Q: What kind of car/vehicle do you own and drive and where do you stay?
Mine is a ISUZU DOUBLE CAB 2005, VW Golf gti 2004, and E 240 merc New
and i stay in eastern cape
ps also own a quad and a jetski
A: Hmm, sounds like you're a car thief-you'v ealready got 3 cars and you want to know what cars we drive and where we live! Lol, do you wana know where I keep the keys to my car? ;) Kidding, ok so I also got a VW Golf 4 GTI (With the red 'I'-136kw). In gold. I live in Joburg. The car is great for dicing and racing!
Q: Chiping my 2005 GTI 1.8T?
Hello,
I own a 05 GTI 1.8T with only 12K miles. So it is pretty much new. My car is pure stock and it is in excellent shape, never had any problems whatsoever....
Every VW forum I have seen online people say how chipping your car is best think i can do at first. I have done a lot of research and decided that I want to chip it, the chip i want to put is Unitronic....but I am really worried if this is going to have some kind of bad effect on my engine? like putting too much pressure and so on, bad on my tranny and so on....
Can someone who has more experience with this please tell me if I should go ahaid and chip my car or not?
Thank you
I also forgot to ask,
will dealer notice this chip when I take it to regular maintance and so on ?
thanks,
A: the chip is safe I would recommend GIAC it a 1 bar chip About 14.5 psi of boost It wont mess up anything. The 1.8t motor is just about bulletproof.
Do the chip and you wont regret it.
Q: my fav, car, is it good?
uhm i like the 2005 VW GTI manual. should i go for it? i think its a good buy... around 20,000
A: It is a great car and Very fast.
But $20,000 is too much. That is how much they cost new.
I see them for $14-15,000.
You can get a new 2008 GTI for $21,000.
Q: Good Deal or should I keep looking?
I found a 2005 VW GTI 1.8T w/ ~35K miles on it. It has a sunroof, alloy wheels, 5 speed Manual. They're asking $14,950 for it, do you think I could talk them down some more or is this a pretty good deal.....body of car looks great, everything looks stock so I doubt a kid was the previous owner.......haven't test driven it yet cause I wanted to get you're guys' opinion first on the price.....thanks in advance!
A: Keep looking. VWs are lemons and are offically on my "Gross Car" list"
Q: GTI vs. SRT-4. Which one is better?
I have a 2005 SRT-4, with 37,000 miles on it. I work at a dealership, and someone might be trading in an VW GTI.... Looks really nice from here, but don't know much about it yet, cause the deal hasn't been closed.
I remember my husband had told me he had debated between getting me the SRT-4 or the GTI, and settled for the SRT cause someone had bought the other one, leaving him with little choice.
Should I call him and let him know about this new opportunity, or do I have the better car already?
A: The build quality and "fit and finish" of the GTI will be better, and the handling might be slightly better. But, as I's sure you know, the SRT-4 still has excellent handling and is definitely faster than the GTI. Personally I think the GTI looks a LOT better, but that's just me.
When the SRT-4s were new, they were considered a performance bargain, and the GTI is your typical overpriced German car. If I were you, I'd stick with what you've already got.
Q: What is the best sporty hatchback for the money?
I am looking for the sportiest hatchback for the money. I have thought of a 2003-2005 Honda Civic Si, a 2000-2005 Volkswagen GTi, and a 2003 Ford Focus SVT 3-door. I am looking at horsepower, torque, styling, and cost to fix (so far, VW is easily the most expensive to repair). Any other ideas? Which would you pick? I am leaning towards the SVT, as its more stylish than the two, and cheaper. But then again, its domestic. I'm looking for your opinions, and new hatch's to consider!
A: look at a mazda or honda for a reliable hatchback
Q: I need help with a huge decision...which one shud I get!?
I really need to narrow down my list of cars for what im going to be getting soon. Make sure if you can try to give me good reasons.
this is my list.
- 2006 Audi A4 2.0 T Quattro ( s line )
- 2005 Subaru WRX STI
- 2006 Subaru Legacy GT spec.b
- 2005 Mitsubishi EVO 8
- 2006 VW GTI

I would be gettin any one of them with a manual transmission and i have yet to test drive them but ive put a lot of thought into it and i just cant seem to narrow it down.
Oh yeah and if it helps. Im looking for sumthing nice and pretty powerful but not too much. Either front or AWD...prefferably AWD. sumthing i can tune pretty easy if it doesnt already have enuff power and sumthing that i can make look really good.
A: 2005 Mitsubishi EVO 8 cos it looks the best
