Q: Is 190,000 miles on a used 2000 VW GTI alot of miles?
Considering buying used 2000 VW GTI but im conserned that 190,000 miles is alot of mileage for a 7 year old car. Never owned a VW so can the VW GTI handle more mileage beyond this without experiencing too many problems besides the typical oil change and tune up type repairs?? Thanks for any help!!!!

A: It all depends how many owners the car had and how they took care of it because consider the year of the car the mileage should most highway. You should be fine with that car. Good luck.

Q: learning to drive manual...which is better used vw gti or bimmer?
i dont want to spend too much on my first manual car...but would like something fun to drive....

A: The repairs would be cheaper on a VW, but it will also break more frequently. Their cable linked clutch system separates the driver from the clutch and makes it a little more difficult to learn the friction point on the clutch. The BMW's have a more realistic feeling clutch, and better gearing to get you off th line with ease. The bmw is a better machine, noone will argue that i'm sure. Go with the BMW and good luck learning to drive stick. It really is a lot of fun.

Q: How much for a used mk4 vw engine for a gti 2.0 and 1.8t?
looks like im going to have to replace mine, should i get one from a scrap yard? Thanks

A: 200 pounds

Q: My budget is 18k and I want to buy a new or barely used car. mini cooper, bmw, volvo, vw gti are...?
my interests. what should I get? a more expensive loaded used car or a cheaper new car? is 50K miles on a bmw alot? I have heard it is like new still, just getting broken in...

A: 50k is not many miles. Some cars have OVER 200,000 and are still running strong. Go to www.autotrader.com type in ur zip code and years you want and all and see what is available. Good luck and hope you enjoy the car!

Q: What type of oil should you use in a 1.8t vw gti?
It's a 2004 and it did not come with an owners manual. Currently run 5w-30 mobile one synthetic. I just want to make sure this is the best weight to use.

A: I'd be very tempted to use 0w30 or 0w40 Best thing would be to ask a VW dealer, or look in your owner's manual.

Q: What type of oil should I use in a 2004 vw gti 1.8t. I currently run 5w-30 (synthetic)?
I live in kentucky. The owners manual did not come with the car.

A: On all turbo cars, you should use synthetic, especially the GTI. I worked at JiffyLube so I know. the only turbo cars that cannot use synthetic are Rotary engined cars like the Mazda RX-7 and RX-8. Synthetic oils in rotary engines is a bad combination. It shortens the life of the engine. In reguar engines, synthetic makes the engines last longer.

Q: I want to change the oil in my 05 VW GTI 35000 mi. What kind of filter and oil should I use.?
Is there something that I should know before I do it? I hate paying the dealer 55.00 to do it. No, I don't have the manual. Can I get the oil at any auto parts store or do I have to get it at the dealer.

A: Auto store for both. If you don't want to ask the guys, there should be a booklet or computerized gadget in the isle where the oil filters are located.

Q: What oil viscosity should I use for my 96 VW GTI? What about gear oil?
I have a 96 VW GTI VR6 with about 90,000 miles The guy I bought it from no longer had the manual, otherwise i would check it.

A: 10 30 for your engine and 80 90 for your gear oil

Q: will finance rates on the VW GTI come down or go lower? thinking about a ford focus?
there are so many choices on the ford focus, are any of them as good as the GTI VW. I do not want to have to use a clutch but want something that is kind of fast and handles well. seats are important to. Durabilty and cost to own along with company service is important also.

A: GO WITH THE VDUB!!! A ford focus is like driving a golf cart with shitty handling. The GTI is extremely fast, handles well, and is much nicer to look at. They may be a bit more expensive but once you get a vdub, you never go back.

Q: thinking about buying a gti mkiv? help?
yea im thinking about buying a used vw gti mkiv...i want to hear from pple that have them and what they think. also i read alot about they have problems with the window regulators and ignition coils, would i have to worry about that still if they replaced it. also anyone chip it? id like to hear about that...thank you

A: VWVORTEX.COM

Q: are manual transmission cars good to drive in the city? on the freeway?
I'm looking to purchase a used VW GTI, but it is hard to find an automatic... I will just have to get by with the manual i guess.

A: VW is loaded with problems......I think I'd reconsider that choice.

Q: Does a VW GTI 2 with DSG transmission use a normal torque converter like other automatics?
Curious why you'd want the DSG transmission over the standard manual, if it doesn't actually eliminate the other problems automatics have when trying to be driven fast.

A: You could do with going to VW's website and see them showing it off. The information you need is actually in the name - _D_irect _S_hift _G_earbox... It's a high-concept variation of the normal manual gearbox, with two clutches and two input shafts; Reverse, 1st, 3rd and 5th are on one shaft - 2nd, 4th (and 6th where fitted) are on the other. By "silently" pre-selecting the next gear (depending on whether you're accelerating or braking) on the idling shaft, then simultaneously disengaging the first clutch and engaging the second when you reach the (variable) shift point, it can act in an automatic manner whilst still effectively being a (slightly heavier) "real" manual gearbox and shifting VERY quickly and smoothly ---- far better than the Mercedes 6 speed semi-auto sequential fitted to MCC Smart vehicles! No torque converter involved... it automatically engages and disengages the 1st gear clutch when setting off and coming to a halt. The electronic control systems are sophisticated enough now to work better than most people who manage to squeak through their drivers test. There you go :-)

Q: Can I use Castrol SAE 10w 40 in my 03 VW GTI 1.8T?
The manual said to use either 5w 30 or 5w 40 synthetic. The reason I'm asking is because I have enough to do an oil change with the 10w 40.

A: The 10-40 is ok as long as it is a synthetic oil, the 1.8T is a sludge prone engine, and needs a full synthetic to prevent this.

Q: Where can i find installation instructions for an AEM intake (cold air) for a 2005 VW GTI 1.8T?
i own a 2005 gti 1.8t. and i have a used Aem cold air intake..... but how do i install it, can someone forward me a URL, or something so i know how to install... thanks!

A: I can e-mail you the instructions from a 2001 Jetta 1.8t. They are pretty similiar and can guide you in the right direction.

Q: What should I use to make my VW sound great?
I have a 2006 VW GTI mkv and I want to upgrade my sound system. First of all, I dont know wether I should or Shouldnt keep the stock head unit. It has a six cd changer, and I like it a lot, but it is only 20w x 4. If I were to change that, I would replace it with the new Apple/Alpine head unit - 50w x 4. Basically, I want to know what speakers sound great with either of the two head units. Any suggestions? I am considering component speakers for the front pair, and I am looking to buy the speakers and get them installed at either: Best Buy, or Tweeter

A: speakers will sound great but will deteriorate way faster if you replace your stock unit with the alpine. that is going to be twice the RMS power going through the speakers. (RMS is continous power/watts given to the speakers). therefore you are going to have to replace the speakers with a higher RMS input. if you are going to put amplifiers you definitely need to replace the speakers. do it professionally so you are covered in case of anything going wrong. good luck
