Q: Getting VW GTI 1.8 parts?
Any good sites for performance parts and accessories for a Volkswagen GTI 1.8L turbo? Thanks.
A: www.ecstuning.com
www.blackforestindustries.com
You can go on the largest VW forums too and find a whole bunch of others.. www.vwvortex.com
And if you're going to 'chip' the car, I recommend GIAC, APR, or Unitronics.
Q: is it true that the new vw gti is not reliable and that when it breaks down that the parts are very expensive?
are the japonese cars more reliable and therefore car parts are cheap as oppose the german cars?
A: i owned a VW for about a year and a half. i put $2500 into it just to fix a few little things and i still had a whole list that needed to be fixed. i traded it in for a Honda.
consumer reports always has honda, toyota and subaru with the best reliablity ratings.
Q: Anyone know where I can find this VW GTI part?
Or how much it costs? It's just the light cover (not the actual bulb) on the side of the '03 GTI. I found this pic on google and circled the light cover I'm talking about. Thanks!

A: Lou is correct, but I'll be more specific for you. The light you are talking about is a side marker light, yes, but if you look at the bumper, those amber lights are called side marker lights as well.
Just so there isn't any confusion or any mishaps, the correct term for that light is 'fender marker,' 'fender lights,' or 'turn signal markers.'
Q: Where can I buy this part for my VW GTI?
Last year I rear ended someone and the front "grill" or whatever fell out. I was wondering where I can buy it and how much it would be. Here's a picture. Red arrow is pointing to it.

Q: performance parts for GTI VR6?
I just bought a 2001 VW GTI VR6 and i'd like to know if anyone has any ideas of how to make it faster! I'm looking for easy modifications AROUND $500 or below that would make a noticable difference. Best parts AND BRANDS for more horsepower!!! please help!!!
A: with that 12v VR6, you arnt going to get a whole lot for $500.
best bang for the buck: short ram or cold air intake (Eurosport, Neuspeed, AEM, there are tons) larger exhaust (Neuspeed, AWE Tuning, there are a few) and upgraded chip (APR, GIAC, Neuspeed, there are a few) you might be able to get all three used for around $500.
if you really want some omph, then you could go with a supercharger (VF Engineering) or a turbo (EIP Tuning, Pag Parts). but you are talking serious money there.
here's an exhaustive list of web sites that sell parts for our cars:

Q: A Place to get my VW GTI MkV lowered? LA/OC?
Hi all,
I'm looking for a shop to lower my VW GTI '07. I live in Long Beach, CA. I only want quality work/parts from VW specialists. (I don't have a problem paying a little extra for it.) In the future I will be doing more mods. I just have to find a shop I trust first. (50 mile radius please)
Thanks a lot!
I appreciate your effort, though I do know about vwvortex
A: Below is a very good resource on all things VW. It's a free community forum by car owners, FOR car owners.
You'll want to go into the forums, and then pick the one for Cali. There will be listings of shops there, that have been 'tested' by other VW owners. You can also ask questions.
Q: Is it necessary to replace the serpentine tension-er when replacing the serpentine belt on a 1996 VW golf gti?
I was wondering so I could get all the parts at once. Would it be safe to assume the tension-er for the timing belt should be replaced when replacing the timing belt as well?
A: Timing belt: Yes, if the tensioner fails it will cause extensive engine damage
Serpentine belt: No, it's easy to check and see if it's bad, and it won't break anything if it fails.
Q: what parts do i need to change on my 1.4 mark 3 VW golf to change it from four to five stud hub like a GTI?
A: you've pretty much answered your own question!
you'll need to do a little research to detemine whether the suspension leg to hub mounts are the same size on both models- easiest to do this at a vw breaker.
the drive flange (which has the five holes) is the main requirement, but the wheel bearings could well be bigger on a GTi so you may need the entire hub and outer cv joint. cv's are normally interchangeable between different models/driveshafts so should be a simple swap. although im guessing you want to do this to fit different wheels, it also opens up the possibility of upgrading your brakes too.
if you buy the job lot off a GTi it would be advisable to change the wheel bearings while its stripped down.
hope this helps
Q: Where would i find out the part number for a cv joint on my polo gti as looking for a replacement at non vw £
Volkswagon Polo Gti
Cv Joint
Non Vw prices
A: Phone a reputable autoshop...they'll give you the part number
Q: VW Polo GTI Handling?
Whats the best way to make a 2001 vw polo gti handle better?
Is lowering the car the best option, If so what are the best springs?
I have just parted with a 106gti which had the best handling ever.
A: I would suggest that you pay close attention to your tyres. The mechanisms for handling mean little if the tyres are not up to par. If you have Michelin money, get Michelin tyres. Another good brand that is often overlooked would be the latest iteration of Falken tires. They are in the second tier of brand tires who have really strong technology solid products and a competitive model for performance tires.
Take the time to match the suspension with the tyres. Racers call this dialing the vehicle in. I understand Blisten and Koni shocks are worth looking into. Eibach is a great spring, but you are paying for the name, their are others just as good, but I don't know off hand what would fit a 2001 VW Polo GTI, so I am at somewhat of a loss. From a financial standpoint make incremental changes until you get used to the characteristics of the VW and then when changes are made they are closer to your liking as opposed to living with it. In this case, it is easier to add parts and pieces than to add and them and take off. I would begin with tyres and build from their.
Cheers.
Q: I have 03 VW GTI 1.8T that makes a bad wheel bearing noise with the new bearings installed!!?
I have replaced both front wheel bearings about 10k miles ago under warranty at the VW dealership. But then about a month ago, I heard some bad wheel bearing noise again! I took it to the local reputable garage instead of taking it to dealership this time. They said the front left wheel bearing is gone bad, and the guy was suspecting that the mechanic in dealership probably didn't look at the hub when they were replacing the bearings last time, and the bad hub might have caused the bearing go bad again so quickly. So I replaced the hub assembly and the bearing again. The thing is, now I got my car back, but I still hear some noise very similar to the bad wheel bearings. It's not as loud as before, but it's still audible. What could be the problem? I hope it's not the bearing again!
I have an aftermarket suspension(neuspeed springs, koni shocks) and some performance upgrades(chip, exhaust, front mount IC). Could aftermarket parts like those cause problem like this over and over?
A: Best thing to do if you already changed the hub and bearing is to replace the assembly on that side, I have had, although rare instances where after replacing the hub and bearing the noise still persists. I would change the spindle assembly on that side and problem will be gone.
Q: The driver floor & rear floor behind it of my VW GTI are wet after a rainstorm (windows & sunroof were closed)
It appears that the water came from underneath; no other part of the car got wet, just the driver’s floor and the one behind it.
any insight, opinions, or additional information on this problem would be most appreciated.
Thank you
A: Once I had a car with a clogged drain pipe under the hood. Rain water goes down the windscreen (windshield) and doesn't flow to the ground. Leaves, seeds, trapped dust.
Finally the water rose high enough to flow over the fresh air intake, and pour out from behind the dashboard onto the floor.
Of course it all stops when the rain stops, and nothing is wet except the floor.
Fill your rain catching area under the bonnet (hood) and see if it drains???
Q: 1995 VW GTI VR6: G11 coolant?
I had a leak in my cooling system so I pulled the car apart, found the leak and got the new part. Now I'm searching to find "G11" coolant and haven't had any luck. Is there something special about this coolant that I have to use it? Suggestions? Also, how much do I need to refill the system (its drained down past the thermostat housing where the leak was)
A: Try any good Import Part store or a Car Quest tell them you need part number G 001 100 VW blue coolant. I would put in 1 bottle then fill the rest with water.
Q: the driver side floor of my VW GTI got soaking wet after a rainstorm (windows & sunroof were closed). why?
by way of additional information, no other part of the car got wet, just the driver side floor. it appears that the water came from underneath the steering wheel console. i spoke to a dealer who thought that the most likely cause was that the sunroof "draining system" had gotten plugged up, and that rather than draining outside of the car, the water from the storm drained down onto the floor. any insight, second opinions, or additional information on this problem would be most appreciated. thanks.
A: if you have a newer vehicle it couldnt be the door or window seals. The only way of getting in is through the sunrooof drain tubes... they only way to know for sure is to check the headliner and drivers side A piller trim for moisture or water marks and that usually means u have to remove it or just that corner where the water drained out. It can also be a broken sunroof frame but if its never happened befor than it probably wont be that.
Q: Where can I find the ECU number on a 96 VW GTI VR6? Also installation instructions for Q chip?
I purchased a performance chip on Ebay for my son's car, but the auction posting stated that I needed to give the seller the ECU # so he could send correct part...I tried to contact him many, many times to no avail....untill I opened a claim with Paypal, then all of a sudden a chip arrives in the mail....but I don't know if it is the correct one or even where to look on the car to get the ECU#...not to mention how to install it...anyone who can help???? would be very much appreciated!!!!!
A: The ECU Part No. is a normally a 9 alpha-numeric numbers written behind the ecu.Sometimes you can have X or A against this number, thats the ecu number.
The location is in the plenum chamber of the car.
This component is the main electronic item on the car, so sensitive. I will suggest you seek help from a competent shop to do the installation for safety reasons.
Goodluck!
