Q: How to replace passenger side mirror for a 2000 VW Golf?
Someone took out my wife's car's (2000 VW Golf) passenger side mirror in the parking lot when she was away. I want to replace it for her so she won't get rip off by the dearship. Can someone give me step by step directions on how to replace it (assuming I can get the parts)? If any panel needs to be removed, I need to know where the screws are and everything. If you can provide a website with specific instructions, that would even be better. 10 points for most useful answer. How do you remove door panel?

A: 1. removethe door panel 2. remove the small black speaker housing behind the mirror 3. look inside where the speaker was located and you will see an allen bolt 4. remove the allen bolt and unplug the mirror connector and it will come right off the car.

Q: Where is the power steering fluid reservoir located in a 2000 VW Golf?
The owner's manual is not a good source of information. It routinely recommends taking the car back to the dealership for all maintenance. So, has anyone out there added power steering fluid to a 2000 VW Golf? If so, how? Oh, it's a manual trans. if that's important.

A: open your bonnet.. i dont know if its the same but i had a 97 mk3 and it was front right and had a green top and a black container and there was a label under the bonnet/hood which pointed out this and the brake fluid resevior and the dip stick and oil filler cap and coolant resevoir

Q: How much will it cost to do a Manual Transmission Conversion on my 2000 VW Golf.?
i have a n automatic golf, 2 door, 2000 is the year. It has 82K miles. No problems at all , just wondering how much and is it possible to do a swap on the transmission from the automatic i have to a manual and also how much would it cost me? Thanks guys

A: It would not be worth doing. You would have to replace the transmission, the computer, transmission computer, wiring harnesses, some interior trim pieces, and sometimes engines. You would be better off just selling your car and buying the car you really want. Besides with gas prices so high manual transmissions get better gas mileage!

Q: What is the best way to remove coolant accidentally poured into windshield washer reservoir of a 2000 VW Golf?
Close to a gallon was poured in. Is there a safe way to siphon it out (coolant being toxic) or will the tank need to be removed? The concern is that coolant is ethylene glycol (alcohol) which will really badly smear the windshield. My concern is that coolant, being ethylene glycol (alcohol) will smear the windshield really badly.

A: 1) I have a 2000 Golf and you can't just use a baster or siphon because there is a debris screen at the bottom of the filler neck thing. Also the tank holds 3L of fluid and the tank it self is very tall/long so you should just bring it to the dealer and get it removed. Be sure to bring it to a VW dealer, not some ordinary garage, trust me I have stories.

Q: How can i hard wire a 12 volt gps device into my 2000 vw golf?
know a bit about electronics, but hardly anything about cars. Im lookin for a way to do this as cheaply as possible, without it looking like i have done it myself.

A: Look under the Hood. Sometimes there are Posts where the battery wires go, it like a Distribution Point. Run a Black to Ground and a Red to Positive. You can possibly come Direct off the Battery, just make it Neat and Professional looking. IF, the GPS not have an in-line fuse, you should add one in an easy to reach place and it look good too. Use the same size wires that the GPS have and it will look good.

Q: have a 2000 vw golf tdi. Air Bag light came on, right after helped give some a jump start. is there a fuse.?
if so where and what # is it so i can check it. Thank you in advance. other that that car is great.

A: The air bag warning lamp is triggered by the computer and you can read out the computer's error codes to see what sensor triggered the fault. However, sometimes you need a dealer scanner to get the best read out and diagnosis. There's no fuse that causes the yellow warning lamps to illuminate. Start with an OBD-II scanner or code reader hooked to the diagnostic port connector under your steering wheel column. http://www.actron.com/product_category.php?id=249

Q: How to replace the driver side Daylight Running Light of a 2000 VW Golf.?
The problem is, there is no space to get to the light bulb. I tried to remove the whole headlight assembly but I couldn't get to the bottom screw. There's got to be a easier way. Right now, my only choice is to remove the battery first. This is turning into a much bigger job. Please help. You will get 10 points if your answer works. Gary, very true. I tried to remove the battery but the right side screw is very deep down and I even have trouble remove that.

A: If I remember correctly they come out the back, so you have to remove the battery. Lack of room to gain access is a normal mechanics problem.

Q: where is the connecting cable for the air bag sign on vw golf mk4 2000 model?
where can i find the connecting cable for the air bag sign on vw golf mk4 2000 model, which might turn of the air bag light.

A: The Air bag light is lit because the auto test function has found a fault, Take the car to any good garage who will do a plug in diagnostic to obtain a fault code the most common code on the mk 4 golf is: 00588 - Airbag Igniter; Driver Side (N95) Resistance too High, This code is caused by the failure of the Clock spring that provides the connection to the drivers air bag on the steering wheel the part costs £40.00 approx for a genuine part + 1 hours labour to fit. Please also note: Air bag light doesn't come into the UK Mot as yet, If its illuminated at the time of test it will still Pass, But bear in mind that when lit all the safety devices IE seat belt pretensioners air bags are disabled and wont deploy in the advent of a accident.

Q: Do you own a 2000 VW Golf IV? I want to change a headlight . Is it a simple task ? How long should it take ?

A: It is a little time involved, you need to start to take the 4 screws out from where the inner fender plastic and the bumber meet together, than you must remove the grille which entails removing the hood latch release, once that is accomplished remove the 4 or 5 hex bolts that you see, remove the bottom plastice pieces on the bumper doing so you will notice two hex bolts you will need to removeas well. and then the bumber should come off revealing all the screws need to remove the headlight. apporximate time is 45mins.-1 hour

A: One of the first things you should look at is Relay 109. It's not an expensive part and it something you can replace yourself wiht minimal tools and effort. It's a known issue on these cars and there is an improved version of the part now available. From http://tdiclub.com/ --- Engine Power Supply Relay a.k.a. "Relay 109" Replacement - this is a very inexpensive part - about $20, and it is easy to replace yourself. On older models, it is located on the fuse panel, which is behind a cover on the bottom left corner of the instrument panel. The cover can be removed without tools and the relay can be pulled out of the fuse panel (note the location on the panel and the orientation of the pins on the relay for reference during installation of the new relay). On later models, it is located on the relay panel, which is behind a cover left of the steering column behind the instrument panel, which will require a Torx screwdriver to remove. Once the panel is removed, the replacement procedure is the same as for the older models.

Q: where is the speedometer Sensor located on a vw golf 2000 model?
my speedometer isnt working stays on 0mph. the odometer is fine. i heard that if i replace the sensor it will work fine. but i need to know where it is first . thanks

A: The VSS (vehicle speed senor) is on top of the transmisson. On the drivers side, straight down the firewall, to the top of the transmission. It is covered with a tin foil looking bag, that has two snaps, holding it on. It protects the sensor from the heat from your exhaust.
