Q: How do I "flush" my brake fluid in a 2004 VW Golf?
Can I just siphon out the fluid that's in there and fill it back with new brake fluid? VW wanted $90 to do it. Unless it's very complicated, I believe I can do it myself.
A: Suck out the old fluid from the master cylinder with a suction gun. It looks like a grease gun but with a hose and a handle at the other end that you pull to draw fluid into the gun. Pour new brake fluid in. Make sure you use the recommended fluid that it says to use in your owners manual, Or on the master cylinder cap. Mixing Dot3 And Dot 4 can cause gelling up of the brake fluid. After you've refilled it with new fluid bleed the brakes.
Have someone pump the brakes about 5 times and hold the pedal down after the 5th time and crack the bleeder valve open on the right rear brake. When the pedal hits the floor, have the person yell out floor and tighten up the bleeder screw. Tell the person in the car not to let up on the brake pedal until you say pump it, Or stop. Otherwise if they let their foot off it will draw air into the system. Then when you've tightened up the bleeder all the way tell them to pump the pedal again 5 times and repeat the process Do this 5 times per wheel. Fill up the brake master cylinder with fluid after you bleed each wheel so you don't run the master cylinder dry. Don't let the master cylinder run out of fluid!!!!!
Do it in this order. RR,LR RF LF....Right rear, Left rear, Right front, Left front
Q: how to remove automatic shift knob on 2004 VW Golf?

Q: Do you think a 2004 VW Golf GL is expensive to maintain?
I am looking for a car, my first car. I really like the hatchback stile. So i looked for a '03,'04 Ford Focus ZX3, ZX5....i also find a '04 VW Golf GL at a good price and millage.
I really love that golf but i am afraid it will cost to much to maintain...and i can't afford it :(
Can you please help with some advices?
A: this guy who posted above me is not giving you good advice. you cant put a milage interval on brakes, they wear as they are used...not based on how many miles you have on your car...i have 95,000 miles and have somewhere around 50% worth of brake pad on the front, 75% rear. oil changes are recommended at 5,000 miles, not 10,000 (i use synthetic oil and wouldnt even go that long between oil changes). i replaced my original equipment tires at 75,000 miles. he's right about the 2.0l 4 cylinder motor tho.
maintinance costs are similar to any other car, although Volkswagens seem to require less per service interval.
you can see what needs to be done by specific mile interval here http://www.vw.com/spweb/pages/spweb/serv_maint_part.jsp
just to give you an idea.
keep in mind that the Ford Focus is a fairly reliable car, the engine was designed by Cosworth, Ford's european counterpart. the newer Focus has a PZEV rated motor (Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle). if you are thinking about a Focus, make sure you get one that has had the ignition lock cylinder replaced (2000 - 2004 model years), if not, you would probably have to replace it as the key eventualy will get stuck in the lock and not turn...most likely when you are with a bunch of friends ready to go out for a night on the town...
i vote for the Volkswagen, but what else would you expect from me?
good luck!
Q: I have a 2004 VW Golf. why does the EPC light illuminate? How is it corrected?
The positve terminal on the battery was loose, after tightening, the light went out until I repositioned the cable. I repositioned the cable again and the light went out.
A: You probably have a "sporatic voltage" code in your ECM. Continually disconnecting the battery, or repositioning the cable will not help. You might as well try to cure lung cancer by smoking 2 packs a day. If you dont have a OBDII scan tool, take it to the shop.
Q: 2004 VW Golf Oil Pan Drain Plug.?
I tried to change the oil on my 2004 VW Golf. The oil drain plug is not the usual type. It appears to require some type of allen or hex socket. Does anyone know the what exact tool that is needed. I don't want to use the wrong thing and risk "rounding" it out. Thanks. Sal
A: If it has 6 flat sides it is an allen head. If it is "star shaped" it is a Torx. VW often uses a 17mm allen head for engine and transmission plugs.
I have a shop and have all those. To save buying a bunch of tools, call your VW dealer service department and ask them what size to use. They should tell you.
Q: 2004 VW Golf, Should I buy it?
Looking at a 2004 VW GOLF 2 door. Talked them down to $9750 with 37,000 miles. I love the car when I drove it, then I look it up on the Internet and find out it's very unreliable? But I really like it? Should I look at buying a new one which is suppose to have better quality or take my chances with this?
American/Mexico made.
A: what engine size is it? VW are reliable if you treat it well and service it every year. If you rag the car to its limits then yes you will get problems, TDI have seen to be more reliable then the GTI, i have a GTI red i, turbo 150bhp with 114k on clock. Yours has low millage you only have to worry about things going wrong when it reaches around 70k miles.
Q: Is a 2004 VW Golf RoHS Compliant?
I'm going to buy a diagnostic scan tool for it and I want to make sure it will work.
A: You need a OBDII compliant scan tool.
Q: 2002-2004 vw golf help....?

A: its a nice car. but the parts is expensive.
Q: im putting a bodykit on a vw golf 2004 how much would it cost jet black?
A: body kit may run 800.00 to 900.00(depending on brand)i don't think they're available painted(most come flat black or gray primer,i recommend the polyurethane type they are flexible and less likely to crack unlike the fiberglass units.
Q: I own a 2004 VW Golf 4 door my power windows, power locks, and interior light don't work. Fuses? and which 1?
Even with my key remote, the doors wont lock? could it be the battery in the remote?
A: The fuse for the comfort control module has blown.
But be careful, it blew for a reason. I replaced a fuse once and as I put the new one in it blew and it fused back together and melted the fuse box. It turned out that the light on the bottom of the right rear door had fallen out and the door had been closed on it. Causing a short to ground.
vwvortex.com will help you with which fuse it is depending on you specific car.
Q: the other day a warning light came on in my 2004 vw golf it looks like a bulb and is yellow any ideas..? ?
any ideas wot this coud be..
A: front brake pads wear indicator. it should be off to the side on the bottom part of your instrument panel. it kinda looks like this? (0)
Q: The exhaust warning light has come on in my VW Golf 1.6 FSI (2004). Any idea what the cost will be to fix?
I hear it is likely to need a new a catalytic converter. What would a standard garage likely charge to fix this?
A: Here;
http://www.onlineautomotive.co.uk/search_results.php?
The cat is £71 plus VAT, so expect to pay around £100-£150 all in. I'd take it to an independent tyre & exhaust fitter, a dealer will absolutely rob you for this.
Q: which is better HYUNDAI ACCENT 2004 1.5CC AUTOMATIC OR VW GOLF 1.6CC 2004 AUTOMATIC?
A: That is a hard choice, I wouldn't buy either as they don't fit my needs. So, I'd go with which ever is cheaper and is in better condition. Both economy cars should last for quite a long time and not have many needed repairs. I know that VW isn't known for its quality, but the Golf is a pretty solid car. Hyundai of course is well known for being among the most reliable cars on the road. So, I think you need to test drive both and see which you like!
Q: VW Golf Battery: average time until it will be running flat when stand light is not swiched off?
Hi everyone!
I've got a question concerning the battery of a VW Golf (rather a cheap model, but fairly new (2004/05)). What's the average time one can let the stand light switched on until the battery runs flat? The car is not used daily.
It would be important to know where you've got your informations form (sources, etc).
Additionally, can one not assume that a newer model (even if "cheap") would make some sort of noise if one forgets to switch off the lights?
Many thanks for your replies!
A: Many cars will not let you do this and automatically switch off battery drains after 10 minutes. If your Volkswagen's does not turn off you have to be aware that small drains are the hardest on the lead acid battery's. Battery's are rated at the maximum cold cranking amps like 500 cca but a one amp draw like parking lamps drain will kill the battery in as few as 10 hours. Don't slow drain the battery the plates inside the battery become coated with sulfur and the battery will short out and become unchangeable.
Q: Towing capacity of a VW Golf GTI?
What is the towing capacity (with trailer hitch) for a 2000 - 2004 Golf GTI 1.8T or VR6?
(I do mean what it can tow without killing it too)
A: not much i wouldnt put more than 700 lbs
including trailer weight the golf cant way over 2500 you have to be able to stop
