Q: What is the best year for a used 1996-1999 vw golf?
I am looking at used fairly cheap vw golfs . Any vw golf information or tips or comments would be great!. If you have one what are the pros and cons and what type is it.
Thanks
A: Your going to want a 99 with the new body style. Which unfortunitly is not going to be that cheap. The down side is that your going to have to choose between 3 different motors depending on what you looking.
2.8 is a VR6 non Turbo 6 cylinder
2.0 is 4 cylinders non Turbo (nick named 2.SLOW)
1.8 is 4 cylinder Turbo
2.8 VR6 is pretty reliable but they do have their problems too, Mostly Coils and Waterpumps. They have a bunch of mods available.
2.0 is the most reliable, no available mods unless you want to turbo it for 5,000 dollars and get 25 horse power.
1.8T is faster but less reliable, The 1.8 T has a Suction Jet Valve or PCV valve that clogs and causes oil to circulate through the breather system. This weakens all the rubber hoses until they tear because they are so soft. This gives you a Check Engine light. Also when that valve cloggs it blows out the seal for the cam adjuster so oil starts pouring off the engine. If you don't catch it in time it pours onto the Coolant Flange and causes the Coolant Flange to start leaking coolant. And if you don't catch that then your motor over heats. The plus side is that there is tons of mods availalbe to make it fly.

Q: I just bought a used 2003 VW Golf with only one key fob; how do I buy or make a spare key?
A: You can get the dealer to make you a regular key with no remote for about $70 or so. The dealer needs to do it so they can program the immobilizer that prevents your car from being stolen. It's the only way.
Q: What was the music used in the VW Golf "Singing in the rain" TV ad?
A: Err?? Hard one this!! - Could be "Singing in the rain" from the movie of the same name starring Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds & Donald O`Connor?
Q: How reliable is the average 1996-98 VW Golf? How much will it cost me to maintain one if I buy it used?
Say, from 100,000-175,000 miles. Also, what are the major differences between the Golf and GTI? Am I better off looking for a used GTI?
A: 96-98 model is actually not that bad. Well, far not as reliable as Toyotas, but basically not bad. You are looking for mostly electrical problems and VW parts are quite expensive. 1.8 or 2.0 engine is fairly reliable and VR6 is a rocket.
Q: what is the name of the software used that tests the performance of VW golf 2001?

Q: AIr-con Pump trouble in VW Golf???
I recently purchased a 05 plate used VW golf 2.0 SDi .
There is a noticeable noise on start up which only occurs a few times, it sounds like a cross between a 'whooping and clanking' noise. It only does this about twice and it clears after about 30 sec.
The garage says it is the air-con pump and it is fine.
Has anyone heard of this, or should I get them to investigate it further?
A: It's possible the bearings in the A/C clutch are on the way out. Yes you should have it looked at further before it seizes up and troughs out the belt.
Q: All i wanna know is the turbo used in the new vw golf 5 GTI is it powerful? and can a turbo handle high revs?
A: Any Turbo creates more power, a turbo involves two impellers, spinning on a single shaft, with one roller bearing, in the center, which is oiled by a small tube sitting above the bearing, and a bigger tube at the base. The bigger tube has to drain excess oil, or the exhaust would smoke. As the exhaust passes by one impeller, causing the impeller to spin at a high RPM 20,000 and up. This action causes the intake impeller to compress air and fuel in the combustion chamber, when the fuel ignites a powerful explosion creates 30 to 40% more power. Over boost is controlled by the waste gate, which opens if the pressure becomes to great. The gage on the dash will let you know if the gate is working properly.
Q: Is R-134a refrigerant ok to use in My 2001 VW Golf?
Is R-134a refrigerant ok to use in My 2001 VW Golf?
Where is the low intake valve?
Thanks if anyone can help.
A: Yes R-134A is the standard for all newer cars - Although to be sure check your owners manual or under the hood there should be the engine information sticker which will tell you what type. But 99.9% sure yours is R-134A
Q: Price on a rebuilt or used VW Transmission?
I have a 2003 VW Golf and am pretty sure I need a new trans. I know a mechanic who can put it in but can't rebuild it, so basically I'm looking for the best price/'place to purchase on the web or otherwise. I checked ebay and craigslist with limited results. Any other ideas? Anybody in the Chicago area wanna rebuild mine for cheap lol
A: www.car-part.com
Go to this website, enter your vehicle info and part needed... when it brings up all of the pages, immediately scroll to the bottom of the page, and go to the page # that has the * with it and click on that, then work your way back... the pages list highest price first... so the * page is the cheapest, so look it over, check out the details, and choose which one you want, and make your call, pay for it over the phone, and have it delivered to you or your mechanic... hope this helps

A: The fob is set with a code, my manual says after replacing battery to put the key in the ignition, turn to the "on" postion, (do not start) wait 30 sec. for computer to reset code, start...says if that doesn't work to take it to a vw dealership to reset code.
Q: Does anybody know whos voice is used in the new VW Golf advert (ch 4)?
A: the "night driving " one?
Its "Under Milk Wood" by Dylan Thomas, spoken by Richard Burton.
Q: I am returning to the UK after 15 yrs abroad. What is the cheapest way to acquire a new VW Golf car to use in?
A: For a new Golf specified as you want it you will need to go to a VW dealer.
It would however be cheaper to pick up a nearly new/pre-registered car from someone like www.trade-sales.co.uk or www.simpledeal.co.uk
