Q: My VW Jetta appears to have a dead battery. Can I have it charged with jumper cables?
I've seen people charge a car by hooking up jumper cables from a car with battery charge to the car with no charge. Is this ok to do with a VW Jetta? I know I am not supposed to use those fast charger to charge. Thanks!
Im pretty sure its my battery because I have been out of town for 3 weeks and the car was not turned on at all during that time. My husbands car did the same thing.
A: The jumper cables will get you started, but they aren't for charging the battery. What the other guy said about driving around to charge the battery is what will do it. Also watch for the trouble light on the dash (idiot light), or charge gauge, if your car has one of those. If the light comes on, the battery isn't being charged by the alternator and that's the cause of it dying.
If you want to use a charger on the battery, disconnect its ground (-) first to cut the risk of ruining the alternator. Alternators are very expensive. Batteries are much cheaper.
Q: What tools do I need to remove an 08 VW Jetta factory radio and where can I get them if it is a specialty?
I am trying to remove my Factory Radio in my 2008 VW Jetta. It is a single disc player. Also, if possible can I keep the Aux port in the armrest operational.
A: I would say go to a stereo shop, and see if they will help you out. You can also try going to ebay and doing a search for the kit. If its just a plain Aux jack that connects to the back of the stock stereo, you should not have a problem keeping the Aux port. I have an 04, but I had a pro audio dealer take care of putting a complete system in.

Q: Why does the Malfunction Indication Light on my '99 VW Jetta continue to stay on despite getting it worked on?
We recently bought this '99 VW Jetta from a private owner and the light never went on during test driving but then it continues to go on. We got it worked on and it stopped but then next time we drove it, it started again.
Any clue as to what this may be?
A: First off unhooking the battery does not work on 1996 and newer cars.
Secondly take it to a national auto parts store and let them scan it and reset the codes. If it comes back on then the code they read is your problem.
Q: How much to repaint my 1998 VW Jetta GLS a different color than the original?
I just got my first car, an old 1998 VW Jetta GLS, which was originally dark green, but the paint is now chipping and such (I think because of the lacation of the car was close to the ocean maybe?), so I want to repaint it black, does anyone have any idea of about how much it will charge me?
A: i own a repair shop,and starting price for a good paint job is around 800 bucks right now,and they usually charge another 200 to change the color on one also,there's a lot of extra work involved in doing this,,you could be looking at 1500 bucks real easy here to do this,and every shop is different also,they all have different labor rates ,so the price can vary a lot from one shop to another,good luck,i hope this help,s.

A: Honestly? $300 maybe $500 in parts. The transmission repair is more expensive than the value of the car. Best case scenario about $1,800.00.
Q: How long does it take to replace an oil pan on a VW Jetta?
I have to have my oil pan replaced b/c the last Valvoline that changed my oil put the wrong size drain plug in and stripped the pan's threads. Can anyone tell me how much a replacement oil pan should cost for a 2002 VW Jetta, V4, and how long it would take to install? I'm trying to make sure the shop that has my car now does not try to rip me off!!!!

Q: How can I avoid getting leaks when changing oil filter on 2002 VW Jetta VR6?
I have a 2002 VW Jetta VR6 that has a cannister filter. When I've changed the oil, I've noticed that it leaks at the filter. I've tightened it more but it still leaks. Should the gasket that comes with the cannister filter go around the treads?
A: one thing that can happen is that the gasket got lost. heres one tip: when you change the oil canaster put some oil in oil canaster. then wet the rubber gasket with the oil. it will make it easier for you to tighten the oil canaster. if you have any questions e-mail me: veni1968@yahoo.com
Q: How do I get the hood latch unjammed on my VW Jetta?
I can not operate the hood latch release, it seems jammed/stuck. Is there another way to unlatch the hood? It is a 1998 VW Jetta TDI.
A: i dont deal with vw's but, you can try two people. one to pry it open, and the other person to pull the hood. its worked on alot of vehicles. sometimes, its got a lever, in which it cant get over. thats why you need one person to try to open it , and the other to keep pulling the hood release...

i own a 03 vw jetta gls 2.0, today the plate undernethn the car. that protect the transmission fell off and it is ruined i need to replace it but have no idea what it is called or where i can find it. it has a part number on it. from what i can see it says 06A103667AA. any ideas

A: Skid Plate. You are not going to find it aftermarket, it's either dealer or junk yard.
Q: How much it cost replacement of timing belt and water pump in 1999 VW jetta 2.0 with 93000mile?
I have 1999 Vw Jetta and the timing belt look Ok but becoz of the miles in the car i am replacing it the mechanic ask me $500 icluding parts and labor is it reasonable?
A: Actually, that's high. I paid $220 3 years ago. I just had a 2.0 Cabrio done for $265 last month. That's for both parts and labor. I would call a couple of local shops and get quotes. They can do this over the phone. Avoid the Stealership!
Good job on keeping up on the maintenance, especially replacing the water pump at the same time. Most people forget about the water pump and regret it later.
Q: How expensive is it to fix a rear-view mirror for a 2007 VW Jetta?
I hit the passenger side mirror on my VW Wolfsberg Edition Jetta on the side of my house and broke it pretty bad. It's still on but it is not functioning. It had a blinker on the mirror, but now that is pretty much shot. Just curious if anyone has an estimate as to how much this would cost me to fix?
A: Don't know how much it is but it would be pretty expensive. Check on eBay. You might find used parts that you can repaint to your body color and replace for really cheap.
Q: Where can I get a cover for my VW Jetta Key?
I broke the part that attaches onto the rest of my keys. Now I have no way to keep it on the ring. I have the flip key.. If it helps, it's a 2002 VW Jetta. The dealership wants $310 to replace the key. If possible I need links. I am a girl, so colors are fine. Thanks in advance everyone.
A: That key comes in 2 peices the key or blade part and the alarm part, you should be able to buy the alarm part, it just pulls apart, then you will need to program the alarm to the car
