Q: What kind of head lights does my VW Jetta 2009 have?
I am looking to get 12k HID lights on it... can anyone help me with what size bulbs they are and where i can get some good 12k bulbs for cheap. Please and thank you so much!
A: I believe ur cars lights are the H7 kind. But first of all u have 2 options. 1. is u need to know if ur car came with standard xenon because my buddy has a 09 gli and his came with xenon stock. If u have this option then and u still want to change ur lights to something brighter then u only need to buy new interchangeable bulbs. 2nd if u dont have stock xenon that u need to buy HID kit for ur car.. u can find this on ebay if u like. try this site http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/H7-H7-H3-Xenon-UpGrade-Kit-00-06-VW-Golf-GTI-Lights_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1205Q7c39Q3a1Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem180295289829QQitemZ180295289829
Q: do you have to get the oil changed on a vw jetta at the dealer?
2008 or 2009. i am thinking about buying the car. i saw someone at a stop light driving a jetta. he said it costs him $100 to get the oil changed at the dealer. he said you have to have it done there. is that true? what is the recommended interval in the manual?
A: I agree with marvin. You get what you pay for! Very few "oil change" places use quality products or the correct oil. At the dealership the filter is about $14.00 and the oil ranges in price do to different areas of the country, but should be 5W40 full-synthetic(VW uses Castrol). The one benefit is VW service schedule is at 5000, 10000, and then every ten thousand miles(in optimal conditions). And for 2009 model year and up it's 3 year, 36000 miles free scheduled maintenance.
Q: 2009 Jetta TDI Diesel?
Hi,
Have any of you driven, or better yet, purchased a 2009 Jetta TDI?
I would like to hear your review of the vehicle. Any info is appreciated.
Specifically though, I'd like to find out if anyone has any real life mileage information. A month or two ago the EPA estimates came out and were much lower than what VW had been claiming for the past year or more. VW is still claiming that the EPA is too low and that 45 MPG on the highway is typical, so I'd like to hear what real drivers are getting.
Any other information (handling, suspension, features, etc.) is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
A: The one we have at the dealership I work at is currently getting about 43 mpg. That's a mix of city and highway miles. We have over 1000 miles on it already.(remember diesels don't get optimal mileage for about 25000-40000 miles) I personally haven't driven it yet, but we have pre-sold our allotment as of Thursday.
Q: Buying a new Jetta... Glutten for punishment?
I currently own a 2000 VW Jetta GLX VR6 and its broken down on me every other month for the past 2 years. Each trip to the mechanic costs an average of $500. It’s in the shop right now for god knows what and I told myself I would fix whatever is wrong with it (I think it needs a new alternator) and sell it this weekend and buy a new car.
I’ve looked at all the name brand cars around and I can’t find anything I like but the 2009 Jetta Se. I can only afford a car that’s $15- 23K and I would like a brand new car with a nice warranty.
Is it a mistake to buy the 2009 Jetta Se? Do you own one and like it, heard anything good/bad about it?
Do you like any of these choices better: 09 Honda Civic Coupe, 09 Mazda6i Sport, or 2009 Corolla XRS
Let me know before I set out to buy this weekend!
A: The newer Jetta's are better than the older one's, but I would stay away from VW if I were in your shoes. Why would you want to be loyal to a company whose product has given you nothing but problems?
There are too many other good cars out there to take the unreliability of a VW. All of the one's you listed are good choices.
I would also check out the Hyundai Sonata if you keep your cars for a long period of time. You get the most car for your money and the best warranty in the business.
If you are willing to look in the used market, check out a 2006 Infiniti G35 or a 2005 Acura TL.
Other new car suggestions:
Nissan Altima
Toyota Matrix
Chevy Malibu
Honda Accord LX
Ford Fusion
Subaru Impreza
Q: 2009 Jetta reliability...?
I recently read a rating that only gave this car a 6/10 on reliability- has anyone had a lot of problems with their Jetta? It has a four year warrenty, but I am wondering if VW has to do that to complete with more dependable cars in the same class?
I live in the U.S. and the Jetta here comes with a four year, 50K warrenty- I went to a dealer and drove one last week
5 cylinder gas engine
A: The dude above is WRONG
Volkswagen has a 4 year 50,000 mile warranty.
The 2009's are doing good so far. But they are way to new to really know. The 09's have been out in Europe for a while, so you might want to read up on them in the Forums.

Q: Looking at 2 different options for a new car. Please help.?
I'm ready to buy a new car & I'm looking at 2 options -
2009 Honda Civic Coupe EX
OR
2009 VW Jetta (Wolfsburg Edition)
Any input would be appreciated. Thank you.
A: Honda is the best choice, VW makes some sharp cars, but reliablity
is not good. To buy a VW, I would only keep it while its under
warranty and I would have to love it and also feel lucky.
Well do you feel lucky?
Q: I'm buying a car?
Heres the deal i'm turning 16 in 3 weeks my parents say i can buy a car for around $35,000. but i want to save my parents money so what do you think of the 2008-2009 VW jetta?
A: Wow I wish I had $35 grand to spend when I turned 16 lol.
The Jetta is a great product, don't listen to anybody else telling you its a girl car. I know more guys than girls who have them, including my dad.
That aside, you can't go wrong with a Jetta. It has excellent safety, performance, style, features and resale value all for the base price of $17,640. You will not go wrong with a Jetta.
Q: How much money do I need to make a month for a car?
I plan to get a 2008 or 2009 VW Jetta with payments under $200.
What will my insurance payments be like? .... I plan on going with Geicko.
And I can't believe my mother told me all calmly .... I need $3,000 to support a car every month! psht ... yeahhh right. For a $16,000 car.
Then again she is against me going to college so maybe she said that so I would give up on the idea. Not a fat chance of that happening.
She said that included gas and everything, what a liar!
What are the REAL numbers people.
I just commute 15 minutes to college and some out of town places but I pretty much stay put ... just school, work and home.
I am a student so I can't no way in heck make $3,000 unless I quit school and worked full time and FAT CHANCE of that happening.
I want my degree so I can make $5,000 or more a month doing something meaningful.
Help, thanks.
I have a co-signer. Good credit and no money down and someone who will negotiate the monthly payment for me ... lower.
A: I would go used and get something that way. I would also stay away from the Jetta since VWs aren't known for their reliability. You're also looking at something in the $10K range. My car is $232 a month and it was $11K after taxes. A good rule of thumb for cars is not to go 20-25% over what you make a month for the cost of the car.
Q: Which car is right for me?
I currently own a 2000 VW Jetta GLX VR6 and its broken down on me every other month for the past 2 years. Each trip to the mechanic costs an average of $500. It’s in the shop right now for god knows what and I told myself I would fix whatever is wrong with it (I think it needs a new alternator) and sell it this weekend and buy a new car.
I can only afford a car that’s $15- 23K and I would like a brand new car with a nice warranty, and I drive about 2 hours everyday to work.
Do you like any of these choices better: 09 Honda Civic Coupe, 09 Mazda6i Sport, or 2009 Corolla XRS, Subaru Impreza 2.5 or Jetta SE
Let me know before I set out to buy this weekend!
A: Well if you drive about two hours everyday to work then I would stay from the Mazda. Its a brand new model and you don't know what might be wrong with it (recalls and other things) Toyota and Honda or good cars.
The Subaru Impreza is nice and so is the Jetta.
In my opinion the Jetta would be my choice.
(wow I had to really think that one through) :)
