Q: Whats wrong with my 2003 VW Jetta TDI?
I have a 2003 VW Jetta TDI. This vehicle has a diesel engine.
Today I was driving down the interstate and the car just quit.
I am able to start the car and put into gear, however, when you press the gas the car completely turns off.
Any idea what could be wrong with the vehicle and the potential cost of repair?
A: You have an excellent car, diesel cars are very good and VW are the best so I am suprised....take it to a mechanic (preferrably a VW or a trusted mechanicplace) and get them to look at it....there could be a range of problems with the car....hopefully nothing too serious... :-)
Q: Which VW jetta TDI has the best fuel economy?
I am currently looking at buying a Jetta TDI and wondering which model has the best overall fuel economy.
A: Pre 2005 models offered better mileage with manuals, they closed the gap in 2005/2006. The returning TDI's for 2009 do not offer a manual and the EPA ratings have not yet been released but preliminary information says that the newest generation of the TDI engine will get the best mileage while also providing the best performance.
I get a measly 44MPG with my 2001 w/manual (153k miles) and 45MPG in the '98 also w/manual (295k miles). A person I know gets 53MPG with his 2004 w/manual.

Q: Do I need to do anything to my 1997 VW Jetta TDI to use bio-diesel fuel?
have finally found a station that pumps biodiesel fuel for the public in my area of Maine. We are going to buy a 1997 Jetta TDI that already runs on diesel and would really like to convert it to biodiesel. We've asked many people and done a ton of research but cant seem to find a consitant or even reasonable answer. So maybe you can help.
How would we go about converting our car? Do we need to do anything at all? I've gotten so many answers from just changing a rubber gasket occasionally to installing a convertion kit. I even got one mechanic that said it would require a complete overhaul of the engine. Biodiesel is something I've been wanting to do with my vehicle for a long time and now that I have FINALLY found an affordable car in my area that has the possiblity of doing it at a reasonable cost, I'm looking for some actual facts on what it will take to do this.
Any advice or leads to a more informative sight, person, phone number, whatever would be lovely. Thanks in advance for any help that you can give.
A: Nope! Nothing. Nada. Just fill with Biodiesel and drive!!
No, you do not need to do anything to a 1997 Jetta to run biodiesel. The 1.9 liter TDI engine loves biodiesel. I have 4 diesels and absolutely no modifications are necessary for biodiesel.
I did modify one car, but that was to heat the fuel to run straight vegetable oil. For biodiesel just fill and go!
On one vehicle, the 190 diesel mercedes, I had to change the fuel filter after about 6,000 miles of biodiesel, because I noticed a slight loss of power when accelerating.
This is because regular petroleum diesel is very dirty! It contains lots of soot. At the pump, they usually give you a glove to use to keep your hand clean. Biodiesel cleans the layers of accumulated soot from your tank and fuel lines over time, and the clumps of sooty particles can clog the fuel filter.
My suggestion is buy a fuel filter at the parts store, but DON'T change it yet! No need to waste a fuel filter it if is unnecessary. Keep it in your trunk, along with the wrench/pliers to change it. If the filter clogs, you can change it at your first available opportunity. You might not need to change it for a year or two.
Keep in mind you will notice when it starts to clog when accelerating up a long hill, you won't have the power you usually do. Changing the filter is not an emergency. You won't harm the engine as a diesel is governed by restricting the fuel flow. You can change the day you notice the power loss or wait 5,000 miles and do it then. You will probably just notice it getting a little slower every day.
Because it is a 1997, you already have Viton fuel lines which can handle a certain percentage of alcohol with out degrading. Pre 1994 vehicles require the rubber fuel lines to be changed. You do not.
Just buy it, fill up on BioDiesel and drive happy, knowing you are preventing global warming, and reducing our dependence on foreign oil!
Q: Why is there no mention of the VW Jetta TDI in your green cars section?
It gets 55mpg and can run on B100 (BioDiesel)- a renewable, non-fossil fuel.
A: The diesel version of the Jetta is not available in the USA.
Q: How much will the 2008 VW Jetta TDI's cost?
Trying to decide if we want a used one or to wait for the new TDI model.
Thanks
A: I read somewhere that it's supposed to start from about 20 to 21 grand. Pretty reasonable I think.
Q: Can a 2005 VW Jetta TDI run on Biodiesel?
Okay, the 2005 Jetta TDI is a Pumpe Duse rather than the post 2003 models. If it cannot run on biodiesel what needs to be changes like fuel lines and alike. Thank you in advance.
A: Sure can without any problem at all.
Q: What causes the disc brakes on my car to become warped? 02 VW Jetta TDI?
What is the main cause of warped brakes? What can I do to prevent this?
I'm not a tailgater. I don't race to lights only to stomp on the brakes and this is why I am concerned. Most of my driving is actually on the highway. How is it possible to miss-mount the tires? Is tightening every other bolt the correct way or not? I have a feeling in my possibly have to do with a hanging caliper, I have had some trouble in very cold weather with the emergency brake not releasing either.
A: Normally warped rotors are a result of improper wheel installation. If the lug nuts (studs in your case) aren't tightened in the proper sequence to the correct torque, your rotors will always warp. Only solution now is to turn these, or replace them, and be sure the wheels are installed correctly. Hard braking will not warp the rotors, only allow them to warp if they are under uneven pressure from the lug nuts.
** A dragging caliper will introduce higher heat levels than normal into the rotor, but by itself will not cause warpage either. A dragging front brake will normally manifest in a pull to one side, not a vibration. Also, this pull may change from side to side as you drive, and then may return when applying the brakes. This is all heat related, so look closely at the rotors for any discoloration, or of course, a burning smell. But as you didn't mention a smell before, it sounds like someone was in a hurry, or just didn't know how to put your vehicle back together correctly.
Q: Volkswagen : What will the MSRP for a 2008 or 2009 VW Jetta Sportwagen with the TDI engine?
Does anyone know what VW is asking for a new 2009 VW Jetta Sportwagen with a TDI-Diesel engine? And also, what's the release date on those things?
A: "Manual-equipped base models are expected to start at $19,000 and the mid-line SE should check in at $21,400. The fully-loaded SEL model, which comes standard with the 2.0T, is projected to be a hefty $26,400. Prices have been kept somewhat in check because Volkswagen anticipated that turbulent global economies "

Q: VW Jetta TDI?
What coolant do I need for my VW Jetta TDI? Regular or long-life? Also, my steering makes a slight whine when turning left and right when the car is stopped. How do I check and add fluid to power steering? I asked the dealer and they said I need a special fluid at 8.99 for 1/2 a quart. Are they pulling my leg?
A: the coolant that you need is called g-12,it is an extended like coolant(for 1998 and newer),older models you can use standard glycol/ethanol.as far as the power steering goes the resevoir has a green cap on it with what looks like a screwdriver slit in it,i think its on the pass. side.gotta watch when u check it though it has 2 marks one for hot and 1 for cold fluid levels.i would use just regular power steering fluid, just dont overfill it
Q: How much are the 09 VW Jetta TDI's?
Can't quite find a specific number. I found anywhere from 18K up to 30K.
A: They start at just under $22,000. I asked my dealer. This is one with no options and the 6 speed manual transmission. The demo car they had at the dealership (not for sale) had a sunroof and the DSG automatic and I believe that car was about $25,000. I'm not sure what the sportwagen is going to start at, but I'd assume probably about 2 grand more than the sedan.
Q: 2008 vw jetta diesel tdi out the door price?

A: I think it's still in promotion period if you placed the order between Nov-Dec 2007, that's what I was told by the VW sales. around $35499 driveaway for TDI model. I am also waiting for my VW new Jetta delivery.
