Q: vw passat..........?
i need the diesel gauge fixing on my car (vw passat) dont have a clue where to go as a normal garage wont fix it, they say its an electrical problem. (seems stupid to me. they are a garage!)
i live in coventry, help please...thanx
A: There are specialised garages called auto electricians you should find one in the Yellow Pages and book an appointment and take your car there.~~
Q: Why is my 1999 VW Passat Wagon shuddering and failing to develop full power?
My 1999 VW Passat wagon, four cylinder, has a flashing "check engine" light. The engine shakes the entire car and fails to develop full power. I suspect this is some sort of timing or ignition problem. Any ideas?
Spark plugs and wires look good. Was recently tuned. And if I could get it to autozone, I wouldn't be asking this question (duh).
A: take it to advance, zone or oreilly auto pts for free scan...duh....ever been tuned up in 8 years???doesn run too good on 3 cylinders does it!
Q: How can I open my 1997 VW Passat back door?
I cannot open the rear driver side door of my 1997 VW Passat from either the inside or outside. It was already stuck so that I couldn't open it from the outside. Then, while trying to oil and clean it, so that it could possibly open from the outside, I accidently switched it to "child proof" and now I cannot open it at all. I have pulled, pushed and banged! Nothing! Other than taking it to a dealership to have them open it, what do you suggest?
A: If you have any knowledge of the mechanism inside the door then with patience you can use a master lock-out tool set and get the door open. The thing you would want to do with the set is to move the child proof mechanism because that would be the easiest to get to. Snap-On tools sells a set for about $80.00 but if you have access to a Harbor Freight store or something similar then the set can be bought for about $30.00,made overseas of course. The kit contains specially bent and hardened steel rods and metal strips that can be worth their weight in gold.
Q: In a 2003 VW Passat, how bad is it if transmission is filled with oil then driven by accident?
My girlfriends 2003 VW Passat had the transmission fluid accidently drained instead of the oil. Due to DIY ignorance of the layout on a VW, please no insults. It was realized after driving across our small town (no more than 10 miles) what had occured. I'm wondering what and how much damage may have resulted, if at all. Or if we just flush and fill the transmission fluid back up and be on our way.
A: I would drain it and refill. That's it.
Transmission fluid is just a lighter grade of oil with the red coloring in it to identify the leak's source. You're OK.
Q: How can I get rid of the haze that is on my VW Passat headlight lens?
I have a 2003 VW Passat and one of the headlight lenses are getting very hazy looking. Is there any type of chemical sollution I could rub on the lens to get rid of this without hurting the lens?
A: Any auto parts store can sell you a plastic polish specifically for lenses. It works well, but must be reapplied from time to time. Don't use sandpaper or rubbing compound: they're too aggressive!
Q: How do I locate and clean the water drains under the hood of a 2001 VW Passat?
Hello,
I've got a 2001 VW Passat V6 and have noticed (with alarm!) that the shelf that the battery sits on is filling up with significant amounts of water each time it rains.
My local VW dealer says it's because the water "drains" have gotten clogged up. But based on their description of where these drains are located I can't seem to find them.
Do you know of a drawing online that illustrates where these water drains are -- (near the battery)? Or perhaps can offer a clear description as to how to locate and clean the drain?
Thanks!
A: You probably won't find them online.
But if the battery tray is plastic don't worry about it. It's plastic and won't hurt your battery.
If it really bothers you, drill a few new drain holes in the 'shelf' where water won't build up.
Q: How much will it cost me to replace my 2000 VW Passat Heater Core?
How much will it cost me to replace my 2000 VW Passat Heater Core?Parts and Labor? Not sure how much this might run. Thanks
A: It depends where you take it to and if you have an air conditioner. To replace it the mechanic has to take apart the dash. I had a quote from a dealer for my Ford Taurus 93 and it would have been $600, for some reason if you have an air conditioner rather than just a vent system it takes longer work. A friend of my husband did it for $150 and a couple cases of beer. The part itself is less that $100.
Q: What is the easiest way to connect a nokia 6681 to 2008 vw passat?
What is the easiest way to connect a nokia 6681 to 2008 vw passat?
A: before I did anything, I would do some extensive research with the manuals to determine where I was going.
Q: How do I make all the lights to work on a 99 VW Passat projector light headlamps?
I just bought on ebay the projector headlights("angel eyes", bmw's lookalike) for my 1999 VW Passat, I installed them, but not all the lights work, I don't know where to connect the LED lights...

Q: What kind of screwdriver do i need to tighten up my door latch on my 2002 VW Passat?
I need to tighten the latch on the back side door on my VW Passat. The screw head looks like a torques style head but it has more splines than a torques screwdriver has. Can anybody tell me where i can find this tool.
The part i need to tighten is the part thats on the door frame and not the actual door
A: It IS a torx bit. If you still have the jack tool kit with your spare tire, good chance you'll find one in there. My New Beetle came with that screwdriver in its tool kit.
Q: What happens when you put regular in a car that says it should take premium? VW Passat 2.8 L V6?
It is a VW Passat 2.8L V6. I just got it and I believe the dealer put regular in it and the manual says premium. Now the car is shaking a bit. Could this be a result of not having premium in it?
Thanks for the help guys. I put some teluine in it to raise the octane of the tank and now its smooth as glass again. Now I know I have to run premium in it.
A: This really wont effect the car immidetly. Over time the gunk built up will and you will be faced with cleaning and changing the fuel pump. If the car has received that kind of gasoline forever then shaking will be the result of that...Dont but that car if its used and shakes. You are just going to waist more money fixing it.
Q: How do you replace the roof mounted antenna on a 1999 VW Passat?
I've a 1999 VW Passat V6 4Motion, i need to have the antenna mounted.
A: If you need to replace the existing roof mounted antenna aerial then all you need to do is unscrew the old aerial and screw in a new one.
If you need to replace the entire antenna including the base, then you need to remove the headliner, disconnect the antenna wire, remove the retaining bolt, remove the old base, and install a new base by reversing the order.
If you need to install an antenna where one does not already exist, then you need to remove the headliner, drill a hole in your roof, install antenna base, install antenna wire (amplified) and connect antenna with head unit, and re-install headliner.
hope this helps. You may find more information at www.passatworld.com.

Q: how or where do you check the codes on a 93 VW Passat?
I have a early model 94 VW Passat that I need to get the codes checked on but I want to know where the machine is plugged into at.
A: you can also scan it with VAG-com software
there's a free version out there from Rosstech - search them

Q: How do I know what maintenance has been done to my VW passat.?
I bought my 2002 VW Passat and I was wondering if there is somewhere on VW.com where I can look at the maintenance records. I heard that there is someway to do this but I don't know where to go. Any help will be appreciated.
I need to know what the previous owner had done to it pretty much.
A: Go to a VW dealership and have your vehicle ID number checked. All service records should be available for you to see, regardless of what other dealership may be involved. Also, you can go to the Carfax web site for more info.
