Q: Where can I find a Clutch for a 2000 VW Passat Cheap?
I need a new clutch kit for a 2000 VW Passat 1.8t...I've been looking online and the cheapest I can find it about 500$...Any ideas of any sites that could be cheaper..also ebay has nothing...
A: I buy all my parts from ECS tuning, and the first link has just the clutch for $109 + shipping. The second link has it for $93 + free shipping.
But if you want to buy a kit it is cheaper to buy from ECS even with shipping. The kit includes a new pressure plate and clutch for $309 + shipping.
The last link has a stage 2 clutch kit that can handle 300hp/300tq for $345 + shipping. It might last longer for a little extra cost, and includes an alignment tool, for what it's worth.
Q: Cause of brake, abs and traction control light to flash in a 2000 vw passat?
It is a 2000 vw passat. 2 days ago the Brake, ABS, and Traction-control light flashed along with the word STOP in the information center (in the dash) for about 2 seconds then went away. 10 mins later did the same thing again.
No fluid is leaking from the car, there is plenty of brake fluid as well. There are no strange new sounds in the engine, no funny smells, or anthing like that. Any Idea what it could be? I have not driven the car since it did this and have to wait a bit before I can take it to the local VW dealer here in Alaska. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
A: When a single wheel sensor has a problem, all 3 warnings will go on.It may be a loose connection or frayed wire. When the warnings are activated, the vehicle turns off the ABS and traction control, however the normal braking is not affected.
Q: Why does my 2000 VW Passat not want to start?
I have had it not quite a year and have had lots of trouble with it starting. I have taken it to the dealer and they have put it on their diagnostic machine and have come up with nothing. I do get the check engine light all the time and a notice of emissions check. What does that mean? I,m desparate, I love to drive it when it's not acting up but this is getting really frusturating. Any suggesstions?
Ok, when I turn it over, it cranks but doesn't start right away. I have to turn it over several times before it will finally start and quickly give it gas. As far as the warning light goes, It has been on pretty consistanly for the passed few weeks. Also, my ABS warning light comes on occassionally. Hope that helps and thank you!
A: ask a repair shop
Q: How much should I ask for my 2000 VW Passat?
Blue book is $4200, but it needs about $1500 in work (ABS brakes, crack in windshield). Both things are optional (sort of) since the windshield crack doesnt leak and doesnt block any view, and the brakes work fine (just no anit-lock action). Otherwise, it's in nice shape for a 9 year old car.
A: Coming from a car guy, this will probably come as no surprise but I think you put too much faith into the KBB value.
I'm not sure if you are looking at Private Seller Value, or Trade-in value... I did a KBB check on a 2000 passat gls auto with 108k miles (12k per year is average) and the Retail Value is shows $8100.
So take $8100 - $1500 for repairs brings you to $6600. Now if you have higher mileage then 108k... say you did 15k average per year and your at 135k. - that's about 27k, deduct another $575 - would put you around $6025
Here's the problem. KBB.com, Nada.com, Black Book Online.. Dare I say, even myself... we only offer opinions.
And Until KBB, Nada, or Black Book have a "print check" button somewhere on their website that issues you money for your car.. opinions are all they will ever be.
I'm assuming you want the most for your car. (Passats are nice, make sure you have it washed up and detailed.. it should be an easy sell once you get them driving it)
I would recommend two courses of action to maximize your sale price:
Go to www.autotrader.com and www.cars.com and search for year 2000 passat's (gls, or glx whatever you have) and look to see what the retail values are.
Get an idea of the average value of the cars, make note of cars with less miles and more equipment that are selling for higher dollar amounts. You might even print some of those out to justify your price to a potential buyer.
Alternatively check all the major valuation websites (kbb, nada, black book) look at retail (ignore the private or trade-in values) Retail is what most people will see when shopping for the car.
People can dispute the prices on KBB/Nada/Black Book all day long, but if your priced competitive with the market (through cars/autotrader) you should do fine.
Just remember to adjust for reconditioning.
Alternatively you could use the highest value off the three websites as your guide when selling and setting your price, and back it up with the market averages you find on cars and autorader.
If your going to put an ad in the paper, online or even hang a sign in it, consider buying a Carfax report on your own car. If the car is clean and clear on the report, that's a good selling point to build value in your car and help you to ask for more money.
Don't be afraid to ask for what your car is worth, you can always negotiate once you have someone interested in it.
Hope that helps.
Q: I am looking for a diagram of the 2000 vw passat to find where the thermostat is?

A: follow the upper rad hose from the rad towards the engine where it meets the motor it is right there
Q: Is there any way to get a new car door locking mechanism for a 2000 VW Passat without going to the Dealership?
The dealers like to screw you, im just tryin to get around that.
A: First of all, we dont like to screw you! Where do you think the most expertise and access to your vehicles info is? Unfortunately in your point of view this is too much money. You can go to an independent shop and hope they will actually fix your car or merely make it worse.
Now, in your particular situation, if you are refering to the outside portion of the key mechanism where the key goes in you can get this from a salvage yard and fix yourself very easy with minor handtools. For instructions you can pay the minor fee for Alldata.com for your car, If its the internal mechanism then yes its more expensive but you still dont have to see the dealer for this, it is not part of the immobilizer. You can get one from the salvage yard but its probably bad to. Buy a new one, see a european service center or see the dealer or if you are so inclined do it yourself. I hope this didnt screw you too bad!

Q: my 2000 vw passat turbo makes a winny noise when start for a minute then stops is this normal ?
A: this sounds like the secondary air injection pump, it is possible that the bearings are worn, or there is water in the pump, if you look under the car on the front right corner under the splash pan, you will see an air pump motor with corrugated plastic hoses coming out of it, see if this is where the noise is coming from
Q: is there a easy way to replace motor mounts on a 2000 VW passat?
without removing the motor.

Q: Problem with an year 2000 VW Passat estate with an automatic transmission.?
When I drive from a cold start, for about 10 mins or until the engine is heated up, the gear changes to neutral and goes for a jerky start everytime I take my foot off the accelarator (gas) and press it again. Once it is heated the car works just fine.
Has it got something to do with transmission(gearbox) oil?
Could it be something worse?
A: Spot on! your trans-oil is low and when the car is cold it is thicker and not coating to give a smooth gear change, top the oil up should do the trick!
Q: The battery in my 2000 vw passat drains completely when cold outside. battery and alternator both test good.?
also battery doesn't drain when unhooked. this has me stumped what could it be?
A: You have a "draw" on your electrical system. On the average everyday car, that amperage draw shouldnt excede 250ma. Remove your negative battery cable and put a multimeter in between the battery cable and the post on the battery. If this reading is higher that 250ma, you have a "draw" for sure. Leave the meter connected or have someone hold the leads and go to your fuse panel. Start to pull fuses on at a time and take mention to the reading on the meter. If it doesnt change significantly, put that fuse back in and pull another. Do this until you find a fuse that lowers the ma reading on the meter significantly. Once you find the system that is creating the "draw" condition, or the fuse that you pulled out, figure out what in your car no longer works. i.e-radio, trunk/door lights, something of that nature. Once you figure out what DOESNT work without that fuse in place, figure out what in that system is staying on and drawing down your battery over the long period of time. Good luck and feel free to e-mail me or msg me if you have anymore questions or concerns.
Q: On VW Passat 2000 gls, is there a fuse for the electrical trunk release?
I have a passat 2000 gls, my trunk release button is not opening the trunk, I was wondering if this could be a fuse issue, what fuse # is the one corresponding to this trunk release latch? Thank you for your help
A: It is rarely a fuse that fails, It's usually the trunk switch in the door that fails. Second most common is the trunk lock assembly.
If you remove the door paneel, you can switch the plugs for the gas cap door and trunk release and see if it works then.
The lock assembly is more difficult to trouble shoot. You would need someone to stand in the back with a test light and see if it's getting the signal to open when you activate the trunk switch.
Q: I have a 2000 vw passat. I cracked a hole the size of a baseball on my oil pan. How much will it cost to fix?

P2096 IS POST CATALYST FUEL TRIM SYSTEM TOO LEAN. HAS HAD RT REAR OXY SENSOR REPLACED WITH FACTORY. NO VACUUM LEAKS. ANY IDEAS WHAT TO TEST NEXT?
A: If you haven't done so already buy (or borrow) a VW error code reader, it costs around $20, and you should be able to pin-point the source of the problem.
There are some error-codes here that might help:
