Q: Whats the difference between the 2001 VW passat and the 2001.5 passat?
I'm looking at buying a used one, and how can I tell the difference?
A: different MAF, instrument cluster, chrome trim, ecu mapping, thats about it, oh and the tail-lights.
Q: How do I get my signal lights working on my 2001 VW Passat? How do I change the flasher?
When I turn my left or right signals they don't show up on the dashboard neither do they work outside (front of the car and back). My hazard lights were working for a little bit, but all of a sudden they start clicking off aswell. Is it a bad fuse?
A: i had a volkswagen for five years and the entire time i had it, at least one of the turn signals and headlight/taillights were not working. take it to the dealership and see if there is a recall on the parts. or have them fix it. it's nearly impossible to fix yourself...or at least that is what i found out
Q: Does the 2001 VW Passat have built in hooks for a car seat?
I thought after a certain year that all cars had hooks built onto the frame for more safety.
A: yep it does i have one.
Q: Where can I find the fuse that controls the door locks and trunk in a 2001 VW Passat?
My car is not starting. It is not the battery. The last time this happened, the dealership repaired the air mass system (or something like that). The next day it did not start. The dealership simply replace a fuse. What could be shorting this fuse?
A: If its not starting, it could be a lot of things..
However, the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor wont keep the car from starting. Nor will the door control switch or the fuse that it connects to.
Bring it back to the dealer or even better, find an independent VW repair shop. Just go to Yahoo yellow pages, put in your zip code, and do a search on VW repair shops.
Unfortunately today's cars are very complex and without the proper tools or test equipment, there isnt much you can do yourself.

Q: Does my 2001 VW New Passat have factory HID lights?
I'm looking to buy new bulbs. Will HID bulbs work in my Passat? Its the late model 2001 Passat
A: if you are in the us, only w8 passats have hids as standard... those were only available in 2002+
Q: How much would a paint-job cost on a 2001 VW Passat?
A: A Crappy paint job is $299
A Flawless paint job is $15,000
Most of the time it is NOT worth painting the car
Most of the time you will NOT be impressed with the paint job. You will have "runs" in the paint. If you do not remove all of the windows (windshield, rear glass, side glass), all the trim, headlights, blinkers, and tailights, then you will have "overspray" on those parts and it will look terrible.
It costs hundreds more to "Jam" the car. That would include under the hood, and in the door Jams. If you don't have it done the paint will look way different in those area's compared to the "fresh paint"
Q: What causes the blinkers in a 2001 VW Passat to stop working?
My blinkers have gone weird, and I dont know what causes it to get it fixed.
My caution lights still work.
My high beans (which are on the same switch as my turn signals) still work.
The blink maybe one and a half time then stop, and sometimes they does even come on.
A: Couldnt tell you if its the same situation, but my blinkers go really fast, my mechanic said it is becasue one of th bulbs is out. Did you get out and check all of the bulbs?? The car is still in the shop, when I get it back, Ill know if the light was changed and it was solved, but from what I can suggest, is that it has something to do with another light being out.
Q: How to change the coolant in VW Passat 2001?
Is there a drain plug or do we just detach one of the hoses?
A: VW is very thorough in its mechanics - no shortcuts are taken. So, the bottom rad hose is removed to remove the coolant....and then the thermostat housing is taken off and the thermostat is removed and the block is drained of the rest of the coolant.
This way, the thermostat is inspected and the insides of the hoses are inspected for deterioration. Then it is reassembled.
Filling it is done by removing the upper rad hose -leaving it connected to the engine. Fill the hose to the top with coolant and then reconnect it to the radiator. The remainder is then poured into the overflow container to fill the other side of the thermostat. This ensures that coolant is on both sides of the closed thermostat. Now when the engine is brought up to operating temperature, the thermostat opens and lets the minor air bubbles out to the overflow tank. When it cools you will see how much more fluid you need to add to the system.
Q: In my 2001 VW Passat, clutch feels tapping when pressed lightly , is it BAD ?
When the clutch is pressed just a tad as if resting your foot on it (although I never do that) I feel a tapping sensation coming from the clutch . is it a warning sign to something ? .... i just purchased it used. The gear shift though has absolutely no problem.
A: Well, I just hope crack or seizure doe'nt occur in the clutch release bearing that is tranmitting vibration/motion to the pedal, in actual sense, a clutch should operated smoothly, again if the clutch pedal adjustment is inadequate(too small clearance between the clutch release bearing and clutch disc fingers), such sensation could occur cos a light pressure on the clutch pedal can move the release bearing surface against the clutch disc fingers. that motion is the sensation u feel on your leg and is not healthy for the clutch component especially the release bearing and clutch plate. a clutch pedal should move at least 7-10mm before disengagement occurs, to be on the safer side, get a mechanic to look at the adjustment.

Q: Thanks! Where are the built-in car seat hookups in the 2001 VW passat?
My sister-in-law is expecting a baby and is trying to install her car seat and could not find any. HELP!
A: You can either call the dealer of just call the manufacturer and ask them if the car has them......
Q: Is it good to buy a 2001 VW passat with 85K miles, I hear there are many problems in the car? Please suggest?
Miles : 85,000
Condition: Used
No of owners before: 1
A: go out and compare the price to a newer Chevy or Ford and those have more stability than a VW..... and 85K means the VW is at least five years old ....look at the price and compare to a new PT Cruiser with warranty and style you can drive worry free for years and if you offer the dealer 1/2 of the VW price you can get the finance with no problem....and if one dealer won't go with you___ there's always another dealer down the street that will sell and finance to you..good luck and try to go for a new ride--in the long run it will save you the costly repair bills.........
Q: How do I start my VW 2001 Passat? Key won't turn.?
The steering wheel is extremely tight, I've tried moving it but it won't happen. When I press the break pad it's like cement rock hard as well. I had to leave my car parked in some parking lot because I couldn't get the key to turn at all. Anyone have this problem before?
Tried pushing key and turning at the same time, for hours my wrist still hurts. Lights, radio, everything turn on so it's not the battery.
A: Your key may be stuck because of the so called "torque lock". Have a look at this web page, hopefully it helps.

Q: Where can I buy quality car mats online for my 2001 VW Passat?
A: I found some nice rubber mats on e-bay for pretty cheap. If you want the OEM thick carpeted ones, you shold look at accessories on www.vw.com. They ar a little pricey, but worth it.
Q: 2001 VW Passat TDI rear doese not open?
I have a passat tdi. The rear door (behind the driver seat) does not open from either the inside or the outside. At first the door would not open from the outside due to some problem with the mechanisim in the door but could still be opened from the inside, however, whilst investigating the door i mistakenly put the child lock on and now the door does not open at all. Could anyone recommend what to do?
A: This will not be easy, the only possibility I can think of is try to remove the door trim to access the carrier on the inside. To do this you will need to remove the trim over the grab handle to access the 2 phillips screw and since you wont be able to remove the lower screw then you will have to yank the trim off causing damage to the trim but this is better than damaging the outer portion. Once you are able to get this off then you may be able to reach the latch mechanism with a hook or something to release the latch.
The only other possibility is to remove the trim on the outside where a key tumbler would normally go but to do this you will damage something on the outside. You would then be able to reach the outer release mechanism, good luck
Q: My 2001 VW Passat gas tank indicator only goes up to 3/4 full even when completely full. Can this be fixed?
A: This is a common fault alot of VAG models have this problem!
I personally have an Audi 80 with a 1.9Tdi engine & if i have less than 1/2 a tank in the car i get very irregular readings! I have heard it can happen the other way too as you are experiencing!
You can get the 'float' fixed in the fuel tank, but to be honest with you its a good few hours job if sent to a garage, especially if you have to take down/off the fuel tank to get to the sender unit! (A glorified 'float' on a pole that records your fuel level as it rises & falls is what you will find-have seen them for sale on ebay! )
It could be that yours isnt 'floating' correctly.
In some newer VW & Audi (VAG) cars there IS access to the sender unit underneath the rear bench seat! (Dont tell a VW mechanic i told you where to look!)
I drive on the mileage now as it can be more reliable! (If im driving a distance!)-Basically my car does 50 miles to the gallon on a long run, so i calculate how many gallons i put in car=how many miles i should achieve! (Or just keeping the fuel above 1/2 a tank!!!!)
