Q: Low Oil Pressure warning on 2005 VW Passat Wagon?
The dashboard display said to stop the car and have it serviced. I stopped and restarted the car and the display disappeared. What should I do?
A: Check the oil level on the engine after it sits for 5 minutes. If the oil is low, add oil till it reaches the top line or full mark. If it seems excessively dirty or has a burnt smell, get it serviced ASAP; waiting could cause possible future engine damage. Oil and filter service is cheap, engines aren't. Make sure that you change the oil with the correct Synethnic oil of the correct SAE grade, your mechanic should know what that is.
Also, it could be that the sensor could have a fault, but most likely its low on oil. If its not low on oil or the oil doesn't have a burnt smell to it, take in for service to have checked out... hopefully its just a oil pressure sensor defective and not something else.
Hope this helps, a car nut.
Q: Does it matter what kind of power steering fluid I put in a car? I have a 2005 VW Passat 2.8L. Thanks!?
The manual doesn't say anything about adding fluid at all.
A: Look on the cap. It might be listed. If not, call the autoparts store and have them look it up. Don't just pour any type it.
Q: Can the" average joe " change ignition coil on 2005 VW Passat?
A: Like Tammy said," Yes you can."
Q: Any one had fuel pump on a 2005 VW Passat Tdi fail after 60000 mile warranty has run out UK?
A: Hi, The customer care center is now leeds not milton keynes. even if you did ring them all they will do is you refer you back to the dealer who has diagnosed your car and see what contribution they are willing to make.
After yuor 60'000 miles you may be lucky and the fuel pump could be under factory good will.
if you do ring up the service id for a diesel pump is 2045 and a mechanical defect code would be 0010, if you speak to anybody, use the service id and damage code to see if you can get factory ggodwill. or reply with you r chassis number and mileage and ill check it for you.
Q: Does the brake fluid on a 2005 VW Passat have to be changed every 2 years?
A: Actaully it's every 20,000 miles.
But basically it's a liquid sponge that absorbs moisture from the braking system. When the fliud reaches it's saturation point and no longer absorbs water then corrosion starts happening inside the system.
Back in the day you used to tell people every 2 years, but volkswagen says every 20,000. Which is basically 2 years for the average driver.
Q: Anyone have good or bad experiences running 2005 VW Passat/Jetta wagons on biodiesel fuel from B 20 to B 100?
I have heard the 2005 Passat and/or Jetta TDI engines will potentially have trouble with the diesel fuel the government will require be solde in 2007 (a cleaner blend) any truth to this ?
A: "Clean diesel"(lower sulpher content) is what these cars are supposed to run on.Europe has had it for some time. The cars here in the US will run better with the clean diesel. You will not have to make any modifications to burn this fuel. You will be able to modify these engines to get improved economy, and more horsepower once the clean fuel is in place,if you wish.Biodiesel is a blend of petrol based diesel and organic fuel oil.I feel you are asking about two seperate things.vwjcook@yahoo.com
Q: Where are the spark plugs located in a 2005 VW Passat?
Where the heck are the plug wires??
A: Take off the plastic engine cover first. The V6 has plug wires. The 1.8 turbo doesn't. Find the plug wires if you have the V6, or find the ignition coils if you have the 4-cyl turbo. You'll have to remove them one at a time to find the spark plugs beneath them. Pull the boots, not the wires.
Q: I have a 2005 VW Passat and my brake lights will not go off. Anyone know what's wrong or how to fix it?
It just started doing this today and I'm two hours from the closest dealership plus the service department won't be open until Monday.
A: there is a little box with a button on it that comes into contact with the arm on your brake pedal. it is up under the dash. when you take your foot off the brake pedal, the pedal comes down and presses the button, which turns the brake lights off. when you step on the brake, it releases the button and the brake lights come on. the part itself isnt REAL expensive (it is a VW though). cost just depends on how hard it is to get to. hope this helps
Q: How do you clean the plastic chrome body trim VW Passat 2005 ?
trim and has turned gray
A: Hey I know of a chrome cleaner that is great on metalized plastic grills. It is called Ultra Luster Waterless Car Wash. You just spray it on, wipe and buff. It is so simple and gives you an ultimate shine without the work. It is safe on all surfaces and saves water too. They also have a Metal Polish called Metal Luster that works on the harder to clean areas on all surfaces. Check it out!www.ultraluster.com/goultraluster
Q: Check engine light blinking on 2005 VW Passat. The gas cap is on. What could it be ?
A: When the check engine light is flashing it means SEVERE catalytic converter damage can occour. Do not drive the car. Have the car towed to the dealer. Your car is still under warrenty till 2009 or 50,000 miles.
Q: 2005 VW Passat 51,000 miles. Are ignition coils covered under drivetrain warranty?
A: No. They are an electrical component.
Q: 2005 vw passat engine sludge?
Have you had a problem with your Passat's oil which damaged the engine beyond repair? I need a new engine. I was unaware that my oil changes required specific oil (synthetic) and especially unaware that the bad oil was going to ruin my engine. I brought it to for oil changes at Jiffy Lube and Walmart without them bringing this to my attention. Has anyone had this experience with the 2005 year? Did you somehow get your money back? Does your owners manual state that it definetly needs to be changed using synthetic? How did you fix the situation? I owe $15000 and now it is worth $5500. Corporate is refusing to cover with warranty.
A: The quick lubrication places don't often look up the information in a lubrication guide. If they had, then they would have discovered that synthetic oil is required, and not just any synthetic oil either, an oil that meets VW specification 502.000 for gasolene motors.
The requirement for turbo motors is an oil and filter service every 5,000 miles or 6 months, whichever is first. Usage of the correct oil is important because of the heat that is generated especially by the turbo. Now, I don't know how often you have had the oil and filter changed on the vehicle; if its every 5,000 miles or 6 months, then I'd appeal to the national body and take the matter up to the Better Business Bureau for possible review with VW thru the autoreview programme that is set up with VW.
I'm sorry that's it not a 2004 which has a 8 year unlimited milage warranty extension on coverage on the motor only for sludge issues. You must also use premium only on this engine as the usage of regular gasolene is also considered an abuse of the motor as well.
If you cannot get any help from the BBB, then I'd recommend a good used motor for the vehicle or a rebuilt motor. You should be able to purchase a good used motor for $750 to $1000 or so, give or take a few dollars either way. Expect that a good rebuilt motor will probably run between $1500 to $3000 or so, but maybe you can talk VW into selling you an exchange motor at dealership cost or providing the parts at no charge and you pay for labour.
I was able to get VW to move the position a little for some customers at the dealership I was at; VW paid 50% for parts, customer was responsible for labour at retail rates. It certainly is worth an effort to possibly save some money.
It is your responsibility to know what the vehicle is supposed to have for fluids and service. You may or may not have a legal course of action against Jiffy and Walmart for not using or recommending the correct oil; but this is something that you need to discuss with legal council and I'm not able nor should I give you legal advice.
I wish you the best in your efforts, sincerely yours, a car nut

Q: Is the 2005 VW Passat a great Car??
I just bought one, and i couldent research the bad things about it, either there are none, or companies are hiding them. What is your 2 cents on the vehicle?
A: Only issue I've seen around dealers and Passat's used, CPU/electronic issues. (I service used car dealers)
I see them with 100k miles and the paint and leather is still in great shape, basic interior, gadgets, etc all still there, working fine, engine fine, etc. Electronics is only issue, like 1 out of 6 get a gremlin in them and it goes nuts.
They do put up with age and miles WAY better than Jetta's do.
Q: 2005 VW Passat engine speed sensor broken.?
Is this under drivetrain warranty ? The |VW dealership is charging $374 for installation. Really $274 $100 diagnostics
A: It seems like something that should be under warranty. The only way to know for sure is to ask. They're overcharging a little though. The part costs maybe $90 from the dealer and it doesn't take too long to do.
Did they scan the car? Are they sure it's the engine speed sensor?
