Q: how do you change the language on the nav screen in a 2008 VW Passat?
Have hired the car and the touch screen with all the radio etc is in German.. I only know English..

A: check the owners handbook if not go to a dealer iam sure they will help you

Q: Where can I purchase a Right Tail Light Lens for a 2008 VW Passat Wagon?

A: The dealer.

Q: What's the name of the song of VW 2008 Passat?
I think it goes something like... all the hope you... all the things you... for all the times you... something something all the something something The commercial shows a man driving a car and passing through a neighborhood with a job sign.

A: It is a custom song written by a commercial music house "Apollo Music" out of montreal. I'll keep you posted to see if I can get it. It may be only 30 seconds long, of course.

Q: does anyone out there have a 2008 VW Passat?
I'm thinking of buying one and wanted to hear from others how they like the car or are disappointed with the car

A: i have a 99 b5 passat that i love very much. i heard though VW is starting to have china make them soon, so make sure you get one made in germany. vw's have enough reliability issues as it is, china isnt going to be a good decision for them. look around on www.passatworld.com for a site with 36,000+ passat owners. you can find out anything you want to know and more about passats.

Q: 2008 VW Passat?
Ok I have a question that I can not find an answer to. Like many cards I have a readout that tells you how many miles (approx) are remaining in your tank (Gallons * Average MPG). When the car reaches 0 miles range it of course still runs, there is a reserve. The question is does anyone know approx how many miles the car will travel; or what the size of the reserve is? The manual just states capacity (with reserve). I have gotten to 0 miles a couple times, not intentionally, and I would like to know about how far I have; should I run into a situation again. Thanks.

A: yes, there is usually about a gallon, or just a tad more...it is not good to run a car till empty....the fuel pumps are electric and the gas helps to cool them down.....fuel pump replacement is labor intensive and expensive

Q: VW Passat 2008 key question?
There is a keyhole on the inside of the driver's side door, by the switch for the gas tank. What does it do?

A: If it is like my VW Jetta it locks the trunk so that it cannot be opened with the remote. Nice if you need to leave your key when your car is being serviced or parked, etc..

Q: Can the windows on a 2008 Passat be opened/closed using the remote?
My dealer told me no, but The Passat specs on the VW website says yes. Does it require special programming?

A: It depends on the equipment level you requested at the time of ordering, its not a standard feature (optional). To be certain that your car has this option, press the unlock button on the remote to unlock the car and then pres same unlock buttin and hold for about 2 secs. If your car has this feature, all the 4 windows will roll down. The merit of this is convinience get rid of heat acculated after long parking hours on the sun before driving so the AC cooling effect can be felt quick. Do the opposite to roll the windowns up again. (press lock/release and press again and hold). You owe me a drink if this works! cheers!

Q: Which one to get a VW Passat or BMW 3 Series?
Opinions on which 2008 vehicle to choose. My 19th birthday is next month and my mother gave me a heads up that my dad was buying me a new car but I don't know which one to go with I had my eyes set on a 3 series but now that I see the Passat I also like it as well. So which one?! Also to one of the answers, why would it matter if I have decent job. I mean I am in college and I am not going to pay for it its a gift. What a Honda or Toyota, thats awful I dont want to blend in.

A: I would take whatever car your parents bought you and be very happy. The truth is a 19 year old has no business owning or driving a 2008 BMW or Passat. If you really want to do yourself a favor, ask your parents to buy you a nice and inexpensive used car (like a Toyota Corolla or something sensible). You'll be happier and better adjusted later in life.

Q: Question About VW Models?
I was interested in a 2008 passat and in the VW website they have a trim called Turbo, my question is...Does this trim bring a turbocharger??

A: Yes, it's turboed, and yes, it's pretty darn powerful. Good engine too, the 2.0T. Check out this VW community to learn more about your VW: www.vwvortex.com It's a free community site with lots of technical info goodies.

Q: which car?
im a 17 year old wanting a new car i currently have a 2002 Honda CR-v thats salavage anyone that wants to buy it please notify me anyways which is a better car/ deal 2008 VW Passat - $24,000 2008 Nissan Altima Coupe - $20,000 2008 Honda CR-v - $23,000 HELP ME! if you know a better car/deal please tell me i want to get a new car and fast!

A: Either the Nissan or Honda would certainly work (not really a VW fan)...but you might want to consider finding an '06 or '07 without too many miles on it. You will save a LOT of money if you shop smart.

Q: Okay, Is it just me or is the mandated auto insurace HIGHWAY ROBBERY?
I just leased a new 2008 VW Passat and now I'm required to pay for Comp, collision, and liability. The problem is, instead of the State mandated minimum of 15/30/5 liability, they say I need 100/300/50!! My insurance goes from $72/month to $258/month. That's $258 I'll never get back. Isn't that like reverse loan sharking? Why is this legal? Thanks for the advice! But, I end up PURCHASING a car every three years. By that time, the car is so far "upside down" that it's hard to get of of the purchase. That's the reason I lease. The car is only worth $25000, so $100,000 and $300,000 in insurance is just ridiculous. My problem is the ideology if insurance. I've been driving since 1996 and have NEVER had an accident. So since then, I've paid probably about $50,000 in insurance WHICH ENDED UP PAYING FOR someone else's accident - since I've never had one. THAT'S ROBBERY!

A: You might change your mind about insurance if you are ever the victim of an accident that isn't your fault - especially if you get seriously hurt because of another driver's negligence. You'll be glad that insurance was mandatory for the other person at that point because otherwise there's a good chance you'd have to pay for the damages to your car yourself and cover all of the medical costs caused by the other driver otherwise. I personally think having insurance sucks too (I have a clean record and have never caused an accident etc.,) but I've been hit twice - once by an insured driver who fell asleep on the freeway, and once WHILE STOPPED at a stop sign by an uninsured driver (who was also without a license - idiot) who lost control of his car. He ended up getting jail time but I got stuck with the d@mned bill for my car since he was uninsured and flat broke. That's why insurance is mandatory.

Q: 2008 Volkswagen Jetta or Passat?
I'm thinking of buying one of the above vehicles. This will be the 1st time buying an import. I have always owned GM and I am looking for some opinions of VW drivers & owners. Thanks

A: Volkswagens are excellent cars. I grew up around American cars and when I turned 16, the 'rents got me a 1998 Jetta. That basically started my love affair with German cars. I'm on my 3rd German now (I've had a Jetta, an old BMW 740, and now a new Rabbit) and wouldn't drive anything else. Most people that buy these cars do grow to love them and become loyal customers. They just feel different from other vehicles. Trust me, if you buy one and take good care of it, you won't be disappointed. German cars are lightyears ahead of anything offered by US automakers. They may have slightly lower reliability statistics, but I don't have anything to complain about and many other's don't either. It all comes down to how you treat your VW. If you keep the car nice, it'll return the favor. Oh, by the way. The Passat and Jetta are both awesome. I, personally, would go with the Passat because it comes standard with the excellent turbo four and the body style is newer than the Jetta's. It's also a bit more roomy.

Q: VW Lover/Owners....What's your favorite VW & why?
I've had a 2002 Jetta, a 2005 New Beetle, and NOW a 2008 Passat & I LOVE it!

A: I've owned a 1992 Jetta and currently own a 2003 Golf TDI, and have driven a 1990 Passat, a 1988 Jetta, and a 1984 diesel Jetta, and have loved them all. The '92 Jetta was my first car, and even though it fell to pieces around me, I still miss it sometimes....it had character. Love the TDI, though--50 mpg! VW's are great cars.

Q: Purchasing a Volkswagen?
I would love to buy a 2008 EOS Lux, white, but the delearship quote is 35,000. I want to pay no more than 28,000. Is this possible? I read about the College graduate program that VW offers, would I necessary be asked for a downpayment if I have a good credit rating? I do have an offer letter and I would like to pay as much as 600 a month for 36 months if I were to choose a Passat 08. I also see that VW offers 0.0% APR for 08's can I get this? How can I qualify?

A: Gee whiz, that is a lot of questions. Talk to the dealer. You won't be able to come down much on the EOS since it is arguably the best convertible on the market right now. I would stay to stick with a used car or something much less expensive new until you get established in your career, first. You probably want to buy a house eventually and save up some money in the poor economy. Whether you qualify for 0% depends on your credit. You may have good credit, but if it isn't established or you have a high debt/income ratio, it could get tricky.
