Q: where can i find a guidebook online for repairing or replacing interior parts of a 1999 vw passat?

A: I would post questions on www.vwvortex.com for good advice. I know of no free on-line diagrams. I have always bought a Bentely manual for my VW's. They are the most comprehensive manual you can get. Complete wiring diagrams and interior part removal diagrams. The one for my jetta is 4 inches thick. Here is one on CD-Rom for your car: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/VW-Passat-Bentley-Repair-Manual-for-cd-rom-Like-new_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ34234QQihZ008QQitemZ180066850655QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

Q: How much should I expect to pay (parts & labor) to have the cv joints replaced on a '03 VW Passat?

A: Well since most cars you can pick up rebuilt drive Axel's with lifetime warranty's for about 100.00 each I'd highly suspect that your vehicle would be about 60% or double the cost of that cost. Then on average really it should take longer then 45 mins a side but some shops charge 2 or 2.5 hrs for it.So all in all it be anywhere from 300.00 to 400.00 for the parts and about 150.00 to 225.00 or so for labour. But do call around bec I've seen it done in about 20 mins a side and shop charged for 1.5 hrs.It really all depends on if the mechanic knows the vehicle and has the right tools on hand and how fast they like to work etc. Hope that helps and best of luck.

Q: Hole in 2001 VW Passat engine part: what is it? (pictures)-and the links work now!?
I was changing the battery in my 2001 VW Passat and noticed a hole in an engine piece. It's black, one piece that seems to link a couple of different things. Maybe part of the air intake system? Links to pictures below. http://i509.photobucket.com/albums/s332/tiffontoast/IMG00022.jpg http://i509.photobucket.com/albums/s332/tiffontoast/IMG00020.jpg http://i509.photobucket.com/albums/s332/tiffontoast/IMG00021.jpg Does anyone know what this part is called? I have an appointment at VW next Friday (the earliest I could get in to see a tech), but I'm hoping to have some sort of idea of what it is before I go in. Or is this something fairly simple>? Maybe something I can get the part for and do myself? I'm actually pretty decent at engine work.

A: That is the breather hose on the back of the Valve Cover. The reason it gets mushy like that is because the Suction Jet Valve(PCV) is clogged. You need to replace the "breather hose" and the "Suction Jet Valve" or the new breather hose will go bad too. Their was a campaign recall to have that replaced for free at the dealer. It was called the N2 campaign. Call the dealer and talk to a service advisor and give them your VIN# and they will tell you if that campaign is still "OPEN" on your car. Oh and by the way, their are no "CLAMS" on your car. Their are three "CLAMPS" that hold that breather hose on. The new hose is a pain to install because the new part is so stiff. At the dealer we heat up water, then submerge the part until it gets a little soft. Then install it quickly because as soon as it cools down, the part gets stiff again.

Q: I need help with a VW Passat Estate car part...?
I have a T-reg VW Passat Estate and I need to get a replacement part for the boot, but I don't know what it's called so can't do a search! The 2 cylinder type things that hold the boot up and make a whooshing sound. Sorry to be such a girl about this - but can anyone tell me what they are called??? Help! My boot keeps falling on my head, so replacement bits would be a great idea.

A: they are called boot struts or some people call them tailgait struts. quite pricey from vw dealers so try an independant auto store or even your local scrapyard. hope this helps.

Q: How do I find the part number for a 1998 vw passat estate rear lamp cluster, nearside?

A: You can call up your local VW dealer.

Q: VW Passat, What is that part under the bumper called?
Okay, i have a '02 Passat, and recently had an oil change and the techs apparently didn't put the plastic part that runs from the bumper to about the wheels. This part is body colored and appears to have had vents and ducts..... mine is in shreds so i cant really tell. Thanks for the help.

A: Lower Engine Cover There is a bunch of hardware that attaches it to the bottom of the car. 3 silver screws, 3 black screws, 4 Large black screws that attach it to the fender liners. You have to remove it to change the oil, so you might be able to blame the oil change place. They might buy you a new one. The engine cover is close to $250

Q: "Problem" code list for '03 VW Passat 1.8T? I've heard you can download them or get them from an auto parts
If so where can I find them on the net, which auto parts store? Are they refered to as problem codes? Is there a place on the dash or something that I can find these codes? So in a way (if they exist) its like doing a diagnostic check?

A: Try the link. The Chilton or Haines Manual for your car has instuction for retrieving the diagnostic code without using the scanner. It typically involves insenrting a jumper wire between two of the connections for interface, turning the key on and count the flashing lights on the dash.

Q: clutch repair to a vw passat caerphilly?
we are desperate to have a clutch fitted in our vw passat,we live in caerphilly.please.we have bought the part but need someone to fit it.regards lyn

A: Until 8years ago i lived in Bargoed and i found WT motors just adjacent to the Capel Hotel very friendly. Either Will or Tom should beable to help you but phone around first because a clutch on a passat who ever fixes it willnot be cheap. I know that Capitol Volkswagen willnot be the cheaper option but atleast you will know the job has been done properly and with genuine VW parts. If your passat is fairly new its worth considering the main dealers even though their charges can be steep but check in the yellow pages as i know there are many reputable mechanics in the Caerphilly area or otherwise try Wts because they never let me down in over twenty years of use.

Q: ihave a vw passat 1.9tdi sport 2001, ive recently had all the brakes renewed including calipers all brand new,
all the parts were brand new but now my brakes stick on at times ,i was told there could be air in the system with the car having abs , does anyone have the answers im looking for ,much appreciated bruce.

A: If the car has been sitting around not being driven for a few days then that's your problem. Even the new ones in the showroom sometimes do it. Just drive the car forwards and backwards for a few yards and hey presto all fixed.

Q: Broken part in engine: 2001 VW Passat. Anyone know what this is? (Pictures)?

Q: How much is the labor to replace a dual sided serpentine belt in a VW passat? The est. I got was over $300.?
Is this estimate a fair one? I just found the part on-line on sale for about $30. Is the labor really that expensive, or am I being ripped off? Please help!

A: One option you might look into is to talk to the auto shop teacher at your local high school. They usually like to work on peoples cars and take a donation in return for there service at least they do where I live in a small town in California.

Q: I have a 2004 VW Passat TDI the heat went out how do I know what part is broken?
no sensors are lit up on the dash I am thinking thermostat maybe? I did have the car overheat today for the first time ever to 240

A: Sounds like your plastic water pump impeller has taken a dive. One way to check for this is to open the hood, start the motor. There is a small hose that goes into to round coolant tank that you put coolant in. With the motor running there should be a small stream of water visible coming into the tank from the small hose. More if someone rev's up the motor for you. This is the most common repair that I do on TDI's. You can also remove the thermostat and stick your finger or a small probe in to feel the impeller on the water pump. It will either be shattered into pieces or will spin on the shaft. Do not run this car without a thermostat and replace the one in your car with the water pump. The pump is driven by the T-belt so you will need to pony up some big bucks for repair..

A: its a pcv hose tee, save your money and wrap it with duct tape
