Q: VW Rabbit?
I just bought a brand new 2007 VW Rabbit. If I maintain it by the book to the T how many miles can I expect out of it with relatively few problems?

A: for the most part vw makes very reliable engines. parts on them may not be great (coil packs) but they're pretty good overall. my 85 cabriolet has about 160000 and its still going strong. a modern engine thats mostly taken care of will run for pretty much ever excluding random failures that do occur. the 2.5 in the new rabbits and jettas hasn't been around long enough for actual reliability numbers, but its not likely gonna give out with less than 100000 miles.

Q: Would a used VW Rabbit be good for me?
I'm 14 and I have decided to start saving for a car for highschool. Would a VW Rabbit 2-door (maybe 4-door if it fits the budget) be a good idea for my first car? The car payment is being split between me, my parents, and my grandma. I really like this car, especially because it's a hatchback so it has some good cargo room. It has the same basic platform as the Jetta, and I like the Jetta too. The car would be used, a few years old. Thanks for your input!

A: Finally! A teenager who actually has brains and is smart enough to want a reasonably priced car for his/her first one! I am so tired of hearing kids who are "buying" an Audi, BMW, Lexus, etc, when the truth is they are spoiled rotten and/or using Yahoo answers for attention. I give you tons of credit wanting to help pay for it as well! Kudos to you bud. Definitely a wise choice.

Q: Can you get a VW Rabbit with a leather interior?
I'm thinking about buying a VW Rabbit, a car that I've always really wanted. But leather interior is a must-have for me. I've checked online and can't configure a Rabbit to have leather interior. Does this mean that it comes only in fabric, or might there be some leather-interior Rabbits on my local VW dealer's lot? Thanks a lot for your help.

A: only in europe can you get a rabbit with leather. Its called the Rabbit Highline. No such rabbit is available in the states. I too wish leather was an option. but right not you an get a great deal on the GTi with leather at 0% financing. You wont be sorry. I own a 4dr GTI with leather and its the best car ive had.

Q: Which Car should i get the Honda fit or the vw rabbit?
i know that the honda is slower then the vw rabbit. am looking for something that is reliable and isn't going to give me alot of problems since i'll be taking out a loan to get one. i know the honda has better gas per mileage then the rabbit but not by much. so any suggestions?

A: I was deciding between the same two cars and went with the Honda Fit. VW, as others mentioned, doesn't have a history of being reliable, whereas Honda has a pretty good reputation. In fact, my friend's 3-year old jetta just had some major engine problems. The VW is more powerful, but the Fit isn't weak. It's handles well around corners and is zippy at low speeds. Even though the VW looks bigger, I felt cramped inside. The organization of the Fit makes it appear as if there is more space and I really enjoy the big wide windows. Among the subcompact cars (xA, Yaris, Versa), reviews commonly pick the Fit as the best. Also, if something does go wrong, many Honda parts are plentiful and relatively inexpensive. Maybe check out Scion xD too. mpg is about the same and it's a little more powerful.

Q: Why won't my VW rabbit run when i take my foot off the gas pedal?
I have a 1982 VW Rabbit convertible. It's a manual with a 1.3 4 cylinder engine. It was working fine until suddenly it stopped working whenever it rained. Now i can't drive it at all because it stalls out every time i take my foot off the gas. Other than this it's in great condition with no rust or anything. And these problems all started recently. Is this a bad electrical problem? what's wrong with it?

A: Because it only happens when it rains I would say you have an electrical problem. Whether it's to the fuel pump or say the idle air control will be hard to say without looking at the vehicle and doing some test.

Q: I am interested in buying a 1984 VW Rabbit GTI?
I am interested in buying an '84 VW Rabbit GTI that is at a local auto repair shop. I want to know if they are reliable, easy to work on, and overall a good car.

A: '84's are not too bad in terms of reliability. It's also a very easy car to work on. If you want more information, go on to vwvortex.com.

Q: How to make a choice from VW rabbit 4D, Jetta Sedan and Mazda 3 5D?
I am about to buy a car. There are three models considering. One is VW Rabbit 4D, one is Mazda 3 5D and the other one is VW Jetta sedan. Does anyone know which one should be the best buy. Please consider the depreciation, durability and stability for me. Thank you very much

A: I have a 2008 Rabbit (2 doors, though), I've put almost 11K miles on it now, and it's been a fantastic car. I don't have any problems or complaints with it. It's comfortable, handles very well, and is slightly quicker and lot more uncommon than the Jetta. The resale for all of these cars should be pretty good, considering Volkswagen just won a bunch of awards for having high resale value and Mazdas are traditionally reliable, solid cars. I considered all of these choices, along with a few other models, while shopping for a new car last year and I'm still glad I chose the Rabbit. I really like the high-quality interior feel (better than the Mazda's, in my opinion) and the functional hatchback. It has plenty of power and it's a blast to drive for being an entry-level car. Mine has a manual gearbox, which is great. Very easy to drive and it shifts smoothly so I'd highly recommend it (better mileage than the auto too). Although the Jetta has the same engine, it's just become too mainstream and I thought I'd like something a bit more unique. The Mazda just didn't do much for me style-wise and it doesn't have as much power as the Volkswagens.

Q: How Good/Reliable/Fun is the new VW Rabbit?
Im thinking of buying the new VW Rabbit but I want to make sure that its not a whimpy car.

A: Rabbits are renowned for their reproductive skills. Clever ads for Volkswagen’s long anticipated A-platform hatch show city-dwelling Rabbits multiplying by the dozens. Ironically, the tiny population of US-bound Volkswabbits is hardly bound to satisfy demand, never mind dominate the landscape. A prospective buyer is lucky to sample Wolfsburg’s new bunny prior to placing an order, and then faces a wait of around 60 days. VW dealers couldn’t care less; nurturing understandably impatient leads is hardly worth the pennies of revenue it generates. So, with lukewarm fanfare, scarce availability and laughable profit, the Rabbit is back. The ‘07 Rabbit exhibits a subtly evolved physique, sharing much of its architecture with the original iteration. Compared with its prominently creased Italdesigned forbearer, the new model’s lines melt into a soft, one-box shape with a slick .32 drag coefficient. Face on, the Mk 5’s headlights mimic Speed Racer’s concerned brow, while a body-colored smiley-face grill eliminates the muzzled look bestowed on A-platform siblings. In current Volks fashion, the belt dips way below the front fender and rises high above the rear wheel arch, accentuating the traditionally thick C-pillar (particularly on the two-door). Black bumper strips between the belt and the rocker help break up space, but with 15” wheels, the Rabbit’s profile looks more Cadbury bunny than black-tailed jack, and less rich than the previous Golf. From the rear, the new Rabbit appears unpimped from the Mk 4, repeating the cartoon theme with Power Puff Girls’ eyes taillights. Details like twin exhaust tips and a hatch lift hidden in the Vee-Dub logo help redeem otherwise gawky styling. Taken as a whole, the Rabbit’s styling is comfortably familiar, and familiarly comfortable. Clearly, the Vee Dub’s interior accommodations account for much of the model’s massive worldwide appeal. Though the base model’s anthracite interior is as dry as a Steven Wright punch line, all the diminutive German’s papers are in order. From its modern motel styling, to the carefully considered placement of indestructible semi-hard plastics (which are not half as exciting as it sounds), to a rear compartment that accommodates full-sized sedan passengers in the style to which they’ve become accustomed, the Rabbit’s two box design is still the very model of a major model general. This Wolfsburgian Rabbit feels a lot more solid than its hecho en Mexico predecessors. All the subconscious cues that you’re driving German quality have returned: doors thunk, switchgear snicks and switches respond without delay. The fact that the new Rabbit is bigger may also have a little something to do with it. In fact, the long delayed next gen Golf is a “Super Rabbit” of sorts: ten inches longer than the Mk 4 and 70% heavier than its Paleolithic namesake. The extra girth takes its inevitable toll on straight line performance. Rumor has it the 2.5-liter five cylinder engine hauling the heft is derived from Lambo’s Gallardo V-10. Be that as it may, in practice, the 150-horse long-stroke mill feels like Volvo’s unboosted five: adequate at the low end and short of breath up top, with an off-key exhaust groan that mimics Darth Vader’s Imperial fighter. Give the mill its marching orders and zero to sixty eventually rocks up after nine seconds. The fun factor is well short of Wolfsburg’s old, equally horsed 1.8 turbo four. But the jingle saved on regular gas buys a six pack of Natty, half a ham sub and a bag of pretzels per tank, come game night. The Rabbit’s handling is, as always, its strong suit. The car’s electromagnetic steering system feeds back like Slash’s guitar, tracking straight over choppy pavement and adjusting the assistance according to speed. A new four-link independent rear suspension harness the Rabbit’s reflexes, helping you maintain hard-earned momentum while improving the overall ride quality. And when it’s time to shed what you worked so hard to achieve, the Rabbit’s four-wheel disc brakes are up to the challenge, assisted by a trick electronic brake pressure distribution system. With increased demand for versatile, fuel efficient vehicles, VW Rabbits should be hopping off car lots and crowding streets like the swift, promiscuous creatures they’re named after. There’s a lot to like about Volkswagen’s bread and butter hatchback– if only American consumers could get one to like. This year, VW’s bringing in around 19k cars for a 50k market (at the least). The ratio of supply to demand will certainly please owners lucky enough to secure their pet Rabbit, what with used examples commanding a relatively stiff price, but disappointed VW customers will be, well, disappointed. Sadly, the German-built Rabbit has so little profit at American prices, it’s a wonder Vee-Dub even bothered bringing it here. Dealers and customers alike await the profitable, cheap-to-multiply replacement promised by VW brass within two years. Perhaps then the US Rabbit population will rise above that of an endangered species.

Q: Has any one had any problems with a 2006 VW Rabbit?
At the VW dealership in my town they have a brand new 2006 Rabbit on the lot.

A: By now most of the issues have been discovered and they are few and far between. For the most part they have been very good. Only concern has been rear calipers sticking within the first couple drives but would be noticed immediately.

Q: How many mpg does the new Volkswagon (VW) Rabbit get?
I can't find it on the VW website, so does anyone know how many miles per gallon the new Volkswagon Rabbit gets? Thanks. :)

A: All 3 of my Golfs ('87, '95 and '00) AVERAGED 28-30 MPG (combination of local and highway driving) FYI- They were all standard transmission, which is a bit better on fuel consumption than automatics.

Q: question on where condenser is on my VW Rabbit?
Ya i have a 83 Rabbit VW and some guy told me to find the expansion valve on my car you have to find the condenser first...thing is my manuel doesn't list this piece so i have no clue what and where it is. any help?

A: My best suggestion would be to take your tank to Iraq and use it to find land mines. This way it would be used for what it was made for. You better hope I am picked for best answer cause I know where you live.

A: "The Birds and the Bees" by Patrick and Eugene.
