...Such as cylinder heads, fuel injector pumps, valves, engines, injectors, cam, cranks, pretty much anything for rebuilding the motor. Any good place that provides VOLKSWAGEN DIESEL parts would be acceptable. Thanks for helping!

Q: will parts from a 1987 vw rabbit conv. work for a 1980 vw rabbit conv.?

A: They should, depending on what it is. There were only 2 different generations of Cabrio's here in the states. 1992 and older and 93 and newer.

Q: anyone know these two engine parts location on the 07 VW RABBIT?
im trying to install a performance chip on my 07 Rabbit, i need to connect it between the ECU and the AIR INTAKE TEMPERATURE SENSOR, anyone know where these two parts located in the engine?

A: first of all, if you got the chip off ebay, throw it away now. those chips just mess with the sensors so you end up just dumping fuel into the engine. there is NO power gain from this. you get what you pay for. performance chips are usually circuit boards that are soldered to the ECU itself. chips can also involve flashing the ECU without soldering. any chip for a NA engine isnt going to net more than 15 hp anyways. i am currently unaware of any such performance chips for the 07 rabbit. if the "chip" you are talking about is a long cable with a box at some point along it, don't waste your time. your car will thank me.

Q: Were can I find parts to restore my 1980 VW Rabbit??

A: Parts Place, Inc (248)-373-2300 They are real people who know VWs Check out their web site www.partsplaceinc.com I've delt with them in the past and they were awesome. They have an awesome catalog with everything you could ever need in it. Hope this helps.

Q: Vw Rabbit Magazine?
Is there a magazine that sells parts for a 1983 vw rabbit. like a parts catalog or something similiar

A: I don't know of a printed magazine though there is one for the older air-cooled VW's. I've bought parts here and there for my '81 Rabbit. I've found the best deals on replacement parts at this link: http://www.vw-parts-direct.com/. Even with shipping I've bought genuine German parts for less than what the local parts store wants for rather cheaply made Taiwan parts. They don't carry quite everything though. For diesel engine specific parts and some good help try here: http://www.vwdieselparts.com/forum/ For manual transmission problems you can try here: http://www.brokevw.com/ For help with manual transmission linkage you can go here: http://www.4crawler.com/Diesel/ForSale/ShiftLinkage.shtml#TypicalShifterRebuildKit He also sells what amounts to the ultimate Rabbit shift linkage kit if the free fixes he writes about aren't enough for you. The kits aren't very cheap, but about bulletproof. (I like mine just fine).

Q: What are some good performance parts for a 2008 Rabbit? (USA version)?
What are the things you can do to a 2008 rabbit 5 speed? money is not an issue i want to know the best parts money can buy. It has a 2.5 Liter 170HP, 177 torque. What are some good websites that could that are for VW rabbit owners? What are some Good tuner brands for VW and specifically 2008 rabbit? I want to have the following performance parts for my 2008 rabbit but dont know which are the best money can buy. I want: intake headers exhaust light weight pulley kit light weight flywheel spark plugs Performance chip that can remove limiter and add some hp. some sort of forced induction pistons with higher compression ratio suspension, anti roll bars etc. also i want to take off like about 200 pounds off the car and if anybody knows how i can do to turn of the headlights at will, there always on 24/7, daytime runnings light. thanks for the info ppl!

A: Check out VWVortex 2.5l Forum. http://forums.vwvortex.com/zeroforum?id=740 There are somethings that you want that you won't get. It's upsetting I know. But what's more upsetting is I bought my Rabbit a little less than a year ago and you have close to 20HP more than me. Depending on where you live, you can hit a good VW tuning shop up for some help, maybe even get your parts custom made if money isn't a problem.

Q: So i bought a new car, and went for an apprasial after 4 months and i find out some parts are not original?
I bought a new 08 VW Rabbit, 4 months ago. I went for an appraisal at 2 dealer ships, and this is what i got........ They said that the Hood was changed, and the car was possibly in an car accident and they did not want to buy the car. I went to the dealership where i bought the car and they said thats not sure. What can i do, what are my rights?

A: Yeah...new cars that are damaged in shipping to the dealerships can be repaired and sold as new...without disclosure to the buyer. Seems criminal to me, but the laws are such that manufacturers and dealers are allowed to do this. It's buyer beware...that "new" car may not be as new as you think. It's a good idea to look over any new car for body and paint repairs...

Q: Anybody know where I can get a thinner head gasket or other perforamnce parts for a VW diesel non TDI?
My friend has an 83 Rabbit Diesel that we are trying to hot rod, and we need a hookup on some parts that arent easily fabricated. Thanks ET

A: I bought an old VW and found a bunch of parts at www.jcwhitney.com they have a complete VW catalog that you can order or shop on line or both. Good Luck!!~:)vw

Q: picked up an old ( 1981 ) vw rabbit diesel with a bad engine. Is this a very reasonable price quote to fix ?
Here is what the work will include:rebuild the engine, re bore all the cylinders, new pistons and rings , bearings, rods, gaskets/ seals, valve job, guide seals. The head of the engine is really bad so he will buy another head and resurface it. He will also put in a new clutch kit and resurface the fly wheel. Also he replace a mount for the injection pump that was busted. He will replace a few different hoses , timing belt .. Anyway, he said that the vehicle engine will be like new and if properly maintained can last a very very long time. The total quote was $2400 which includes the head that he has to buy along with rebuild kit. Volkswagen diesel mechanic is including rebuilt mentioned plus the various parts, the clutch kit. Should he put new valves too? said the cam / crank were fine? Someone mentioned that crank or cam sometimes will get reground during a rebuilt? all for 2400 installed and running great in his words... fair deal? anything else to be aware of?

A: My buddy has a VW Jetta that runs on bio-diesel. I remember that he spent more money than that on his car to get it running good and now he gets all his fuel free from restaurants.

Q: VW golf for first car?
I am a six foot 1 16 year old boy looking for my first car and i really wanted the vw rabbit (Golf) but can some 1 tell me pros and cons and also i heard parts for them are expenseive. HELP?

A: I'm 6 ' 1" and drive a mk3 golf gti. There's plenty of room for the driver although anyone sitting behind you won't have much room! Wouldn't go for a gti for your first one though - expensive on petrol, not to mention the insurance! The 1.4 petrol is a bit underpowered so I'd say go for a 1.6 petrol or the 1.9 diesel (around 50mpg). As regards maintenance its expensive if you're going to a main dealer but parts can be got cheap on the web and if you have a good local mechanic you shouldn't be paying any more than you would with any other car! If you pick up a good one and take care of it it'll go forever!

Q: Why Is It That VW Made 4 Seaters That Got 50 MPG 25 YRS AGO AND NOW THEY ARE BRAGGING ABOUT 40 MPG 2 SEATERS ?
THE DIESEL VW RABBIT GOT 50 MPG IN 1980 AND WAS VERY RELIABLE AND LONG LASTING.IF THEY DIDNT RUST AWAY LIKE MOST EARLY 80S CARS HAVE BY NOW,THE ROADS WOULD BE FILLED WITH THEM-THE GAS MODELS GOT MPG IN THE HIGH 40S-HAVE PEOPLE FORGOTTEN THIS? WHAT MAKES CAR MANUFACTURERS THINK THEY HAVE SOMETHING REALLY NIFTY WHEN THEY TRY TO SELL A TINY 2 SEATER WITH ONLY A 3 CYLINDER ENGINE WITH NO POWER? I THINK THAT IF VW COULD GET 50 MPG 25 YEARS AGO THEN THEY SHOULD BE GETTING 70 OR 80 MPG BY NOW WITH A SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN HORSEPOWER TO BOOT-ITS ALMOST EMBARASSING THAT I CAN MAKE A CAR OUT OF JUNKYARD PARTS THAT CAN GET DOUBLE THE MPG THAN 95% OF THE NEW ECONOMY CARS ON THE ROAD RIGHT NOW-I KNOW-EMISSION AND CRASH TESTING CHANGED THAT BUT WHY DONT WE HAVE A CHOICE ON CRASH TESTING? I WOULD ENCLOSE MY MOTORCYCLE IF IT WOULDNT CHANGE IT INTO A CAR THAT REQUIRES A CRASH TEST-THEY DONT MAKE US CRASH TEST OUR BIKES-SHOULDNT WE HAVE A CLASS OF CARS THAT WE KNOW ARE UNSAFE JUST LIKE BIKES?

A: Why is it that they made keyboards with shift keys 25 years ago and now they don't? OH WAIT, THEY DO. Anyhow, the reasons are twofold: Safety, and consumer expectations. Cars are required to meet much stricter safety standards now than they were in the 80s. It was trivial to make an 1800 pound car in 1980, but now it requires exotic materials (or just a really damn small car). Crumple zones, secure passenger cells, air bags, all these things have mass. It takes more fuel to move all that extra mass around. The other reason is that people were used to powerful cars before the fuel crisis in the 70s, and before emissions requirements came on. It was during the 1980s that automakers started being able to make cars that met the requirements those events imposed, while being able to increase the size and power of the cars that still got that 20-30 mpg. People LIKE power, so they tended to buy the more powerful cars. A lot of people like having more space, so they bought bigger cars. Fuel economy was a secondary concern. Now if you wanted to make a 70 horsepower car, you probably could be getting 70 mpg. But it would only appeal to a narrow segment of the market...those people who would be comfortable buying a 25 year old rabbit, mainly. Hey, in Europe they're still making cars like that. VW is still one of the leaders, and they've already put in enough R&D to be sure they're going to stay near the front for another decade or two. Also the Loremo seems to be shaping up nicely. As for safety rules and motorcycles and 3 vs 4 wheeled vehicles...the US has a lot of really idiotic rules

Q: Buying or leasing a 2008 Volkswagen Rabbit?
I want to get rid of my 2007 Ford F-150 Crewcab, 4x4, long bed. The gas is killing me. Great truck- but I'm basically making two car payments a month for it. One for the actual truck and one just for gas. I've been looking into a lot of compact cars (the 5, Yaris, Fit, SX4 Sport) and I have to say, I'm impressed with the looks and specs of the VW Rabbit. I'm going for a test drive this Tuesday. I would just like some advice from VW owners, previous VW owners and car fans in general? Should I buy or lease? Also, I'm pretty set on the 4 door and I would love to get a manual (way more fun than an automatic- you feel like you're part of the car). Any other suggestions on what packages I should get for the Rabbit?

A: lease it first, because some are just troublesome, but some turned out to be very reliable. remember there are always couple bad apples in a bag. only time will tell if you get a good or bad rabbit.

Q: How much HP do i have under my Hood?
i have a 2007 VW Rabbit, when i bought it a month it was set at stock 150 HP, until now i have added a $700 Greddy Exhaust System, and a $120 GBOX Performance mudule chip, im guessing i have all together about 175 HP because the chip says it adds 11 HP and the Exhast should add about 8-12 HP, how much you guys think these two parts have added, and also on google it says a stock VW Rabbit goes 0-60 in 8.8 sec. how much faster you think it goes now?

A: The chip was your best buy, but unless you couple it with a performance air filter their estimates are off. My estimate without improving the inflow of air would put you at about 165-170hp. And googles estimate of 0-60 is with a pro driver, ideal conditions, new tires. Oh and also a stick, do not know wether yours is a stick or not. But it should shave a respectable 1/2 second at most. You are on the right track to making a worthy street racer if you stick with it. never underestimate your tires and traction, also lighten your car as much as possible, like you didn't know that already.
